Saturdays are for styling ☀️

A new client came to me with an interesting ask: could I style their living room and lower-level family room using only furnishings and dĂŠcor they already owned? Of course.

The end result? Spaces that feel cohesive, inviting, and ready for relaxation.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, chosen moms, foster moms, hopeful moms, stepmothers and mother figures 🌸

Being a mother to three healthy sons is the greatest privilege of my life; a tired, happy, challenging wonder and adventure that remains more than I ever dreamed.

Even when work begins at a different time of year, I can’t help but tie projects with particular seasons. The primary bedroom of our feels inexplicably linked in my mind with the newness of spring and the long, lazy days of summer ahead.

and I captured the finished work on a gorgeous August afternoon and I have such fond memories of this happy day.

Often, it’s the quiet corners of a home that draw us in—softening the edges of a busy week and inviting a moment to linger.

In our , painting the trim, ceiling and casings coupled with a lively art duo made the foyer feel fresh again. Better still, the additions complement the original wallpaper, creating that lovely balance between new and old.

Wishing everyone a slow and present weekend — xx, Em

Step inside the Jack and Jill bathroom of our Rolling Hills Project. For months, I’ve searched for the right wallpaper for this space; I finally found the one and she’s going to be a beauty!

Those of you who have followed my work for a while know my love for a palette of blues and greens. It calls to mind the quiet magic of late spring in the Midwest—when, after months of monotone, the landscape reawakens in a rush of color.

It also takes me back to childhood summers on Pelican Lake. The blue of the water and green brushstrokes of the surrounding trees became the backdrop of the sweetest days.

I’m often asked about paint colors, so without further ado—here are a few of my most beloved selections.

I haven’t posted all too much recently (too busy living!) but, rest assured, we’re adjusting to life with chubby baby Jetty and making good progress at our new home à la . If you’d like to see, a bit of life so far this year:

1. Progress in our primary bedroom! The color palette of chocolate velvet, smoky gray green, and dusky pale blue came together even better than I hoped. More importantly, the boys approve.

2. We love living nearer to nature and woodlands, and take advantage of the nearby Arboretum as often as we can. Here Huxley and my Dad (whom Huck calls ‘Brown Papa’ because of my Dad’s still dark hair) enjoyed a crisp walk around Green Heron Pond.

3. Sunset over Punta Mita, MX, where we celebrated the wedding of dear friends in January.

4. Mulling over paint and wallpaper selections for several rooms…still hunting down a whimsical wallpaper for the guest bath and a warm cocoa-y brown for the mudroom.

5. We love ourselves a movie night! Wilder, Huck and Jett give the new Juarrasic Park two thumbs up. :-)

6. The tile mosaic in our new mudroom. It wonderfully hides dirt and adds much-needed pattern to an otherwise v practical space.

7. I’m cooking more than ever in the new kitchen, and feel my shoulders drop whenever I pause to admire the beige cabinetry and honed quartz counters.

8. The tile in the guest en suite: pretty, practical and waiting patiently for the perfect wallpaper to adorn the walls.

9. Last, but certainly not least, Jetty! 💙 He’s rarely not smiling and utterly wrecked us when he locked eyes with Brady and said “Dada” last week.

A primary retreat that feels like spring 🌷

From the custom window seat that feels like it was always there to enveloping every wall, casing, baseboard and even the ceiling in a pale new leaf green, the primary bedroom of our feels just as serene as it looks.

Notes of brass, painted black furnishings and woven elements ground the space and keep the atmosphere from veering too feminine.

It was such a pleasure to be asked back to design more rooms in this spectacular Old Beauty and to create better function and form for this creative and delightful family of five.
