DEMX architecture is a design-oriented architecture firm that was founded by Tim deNoble, former department head of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, and our managing principal, Tim Maddox, AIA. We were founded with a belief that vernacular building types are the buildings that we could learn our greatest lessons from. Vernacular buildings, such as barns, sheds, silos, and local hou

ses all exhibit our most essential responses to the environment. They are built, almost by definition, with context and function being priority. These buildings are not built with style or prestige in mind, and therefore they age with grace, gaining value over time and do not reflect trends or dated values. Our other inspiration, Modernism, is dependent on the ideals of material production and assembly. Like vernacularism, Modernism was absent of an Architectural Style and the market forces that drove those styles. Modernism focused on appropriate and efficient material use and the design's response to its site. Our practice combines these two design approaches, which allows us to pursue sustainable practices rooted in efficiency, appropriate material choices, and contextual response. We strive to make efficient, rational decisions that are not dictated by style. It is our belief that an architecture of dignity emerges from these ideals.

Breaking ground on 1st Choice Healthcare Brookland.

We celebrated the groundbreaking of the new 1st Choice Healthcare Clinic in Brookland, Arkansas, marking the beginning of another project in our continued work with 1st Choice Healthcare.

The Brookland Clinic builds on 1st Choice Healthcare’s vision for expanding accessible community-focused healthcare. As the latest addition to their growing network of clinics, the project carries forward a design approach that responds to the needs and character of its own community.

We are grateful to 1st Choice Healthcare and our project partners for their continued trust and collaboration, and we’re excited to see the Brookland Clinic take shape.

Our team recently joined Bell & McCoy IS for a tour of the H.E. Williams, Inc. manufacturing facility in Carthage, Missouri. We got a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the products we use in our work are made. We also took a quick detour to the Three Corners, where Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma meet.

New View: A Curated Visual Gallery: Twenty Magnificent Homes by Midwest Architects, published by , includes our Willis Residence as part of a selection of contemporary residential work.

The book brings together projects that explore how architecture engages landscape, material, and craft, offering a layered view of current practice across the Midwest.

We’re honored to be included among this group of work and to contribute to a broader conversation around the evolving idea of home.

A few weeks ago, we attended the book launch and celebrated the collaboration behind the publication. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing it together.
