Does a room need a bold color to feel finished, or can quiet do the same job? Quiet can absolutely do the job.

This Client wanted her Living Room to feel calm, not busy, but she still wanted texture and interest at the window. We landed on a Valance in a gray embroidered leaf print — enough detail to catch your eye up close, subtle enough to let the rest of the room breathe.

Tip — A tone-on-tone embroidered fabric gives you texture without adding another color to a room. It's one of my favorite tricks for a Client who says ""I don't want it too busy.""

Quiet doesn't have to mean boring. It just means intentional.

I know Bay Windows can be tricky, but do they scare us? Not even a little bit.

Three angles, and everything still has to line up and read as one cohesive design instead of three separate windows doing their own thing. For this bay, we layered Box Pleat Valances in a cheerful floral over solid green Roman Shades underneath, with buttons at each pleat for a tailored, finished look across all three windows.

Tip — I always like to treat a bay window as one big window instead of three separate ones. You do have the option of treating each window on its own — it really depends on the size of the bay and how much room you have between the windows.

Now that bay doesn't feel like three separate windows competing for attention. It feels like one beautiful focal point.

Here's something that might surprise you — a ""Faux"" Roman Shade doesn't actually go up and down!

""Faux"" in Faux Roman Shade means exactly that — it's stationary. It's built and mounted to look like a real Roman Shade, pleats and all, but it never raises or lowers. It's really a Valance dressed up to look like something more.

Tip — Faux Roman Shades are one of the easiest styles to blend with another functional treatment in an open floor plan. Pair one with a working Blind or Shade behind it, and you get all the style with all the function too.

Now you'll never look at a Faux Roman Shade the same way again!

Does a Living Room need to be fancy to feel finished? Not even a little. It just needs to feel like you.

This Living Room gets used for everything — movie nights, guests dropping by, quiet mornings with coffee — so the Client wanted something charming, not formal. We landed on a London Shade in a cheerful early American print — soft folds at the bottom give it a relaxed, romantic feel that's still tailored enough to look intentional.

Tip — A London Shade is a wonderful in-between option when a Roman Shade feels too flat and a Valance alone feels too plain. It gives you the best of both.

Now that window is easily one of her favorite spots in the whole room.

Here's a common misconception — that short rods are somehow the less expensive option. They're not, and that's actually good news.

Short rods take more hardware per window, not less — more brackets, more finials, more of that Decorative Hardware doing its job. But here's the trade-off that makes it worth it: with a short rod, your Panels sit almost entirely on the wall instead of stacking in front of the glass, so a window with a great view stays a window with a great view.

Tip — More finials just means more jewelry! If a room can handle a little extra sparkle at each window, short rods are a fun place to let that happen.

That's not a shortcut. That's a window that finally gets to show off its view.

Aqua and lime green? Together? On purpose?

Yes! And I promise you, once you see it in person, it makes total sense. Fun with color is one of my favorite things to do, and this pairing is exactly why. The aqua keeps things calm and grounded, and the lime green brings in just enough energy to keep the room from feeling flat.

Tip — When you're nervous about pairing two bold colors, look for a third neutral in the room — a rug, a wall color, a piece of furniture — to act as the bridge between them. It gives your eye somewhere to rest.

Color doesn't have to be scary. It just has to be intentional!
