There was a screened in porch behind the garage when I was a kid. The concrete slabs and overhang were all that remained when I purchased the house. Although the porch roof had to be removed, the slabs were kept and became the base for a new patio. The raised garden was built by my sister and sister-in-law and has become one of my favorite things!

It’s been two years this week, since the first day we started working on the inside of my house. As you can see, we cleared a lot of brush even before starting the inside. It’s not done. But it’s getting close. Do renovations always take this long? We are a team of three who all work on other projects at the same time. Plus, this was the entire house, inside and out. So the answer is, it depends on a lot of factors: the scale of the project, the availability of skilled workers and the availability of product. (Just to name a few) A gifted carpenter, refinisher or tiler is worth waiting for.

I don’t do a lot of hand drawing anymore but it’s fun to create freehand renderings when time permits. My parents had this drafting table built for me in 1984 (gasp!) by a talented cabinet maker. It’s suffered some wear and tear over the years but it finally has its own space in the office!
