June is packed at Flax & Fiber!

We've got a little bit of everything this month: informal make-a-longs, technique classes, community events, and a few surprises we're still putting the finishing touches on. Whether you're looking to learn a new skill, meet other makers, or simply spend some time crafting, there's something for you.

A few co-owner/shop updates before we get to the calendar:

Co-owner Michelle is celebrating a major family milestone this week as her daughter gets married! We're sure there will be plenty of photos to share soon. We can also confirm that at least one project made the trip to NYC... and there may have been a second cast-on somewhere along the way.🤫

You'll find co-owner Linda & Color Me Happy Fiber Arts at Hoosier Hills Fiber Festival in Franklin, IN this weekend. Need recommendations while you're there? Maddie is always happy to talk about Franklin and probably has opinions about where you should eat, shop, and wander.

🎂 And please join us in wishing co-owner Sarah a very happy birthday (month)! If you see her in the shop, feel free to send some birthday wishes her way—even if it's after the official date - she'll be delighted.

Calendar Highlights:
* Market Tote MAL - informal, no cost, no registration. We have supplies available at the store if needed, but none on site. Detailed post coming tomorrow.
* Sweater technique class for finding the perfect fit. Registration on our website. Location is at Le Macaron on 116th.
* Worldwide Knit in Public Day - informal, no cost, no registration. We'll be back at the public market in the morning (or if it's raining we'll meet in public at Niyyah Coffee)
* Sheep Detective Movie Night - registration coming!
* Yarn doctor clinic - registration coming!
* Two class offerings with the Knitting Fairy - registration open!
* Tunisian crochet class - registration coming!

📅 Be sure to check our calendar for the latest information, locations, and registration links. Some events require registration, while others are simply drop-in and join the fun.

We can't wait to spend June crafting, learning, and building community with all of you.

Sarah featured Striata from this week, and Michelle loves it too!

Here is my work in progress: the Deja Vu Capelet by Donna Palicka () featuring the Morning Star colorway alongside Earthy Sock from . Together these colors remind me of trips to the desert southwest — the strata of the mountains against the blue sky really speak to me (swipe for a few images, including one with Jacob, one of my sons).

We’re kicking off Pride Month by showcasing this Creativity Shawl by Tori Yu

Sarah knitted the shawl using the Love is Love colorway of Helix, with a natural skein of Sustainawool as a contrast.

The pattern is easy to work up and great for your next road trip since it only has two skeins!

Welcome back to Sarah’s Saturday Stash! Today I’m talking about one of my favorite finds from the H+H Americas: Polka Dot Sheep!

Michelle and I went to Chicago earlier this month for an annual fiber arts trade show. We fell in love with Polka Dot Sheep's Striata yarn for its gorgeous gradient colorways. This merino and silk blend is dyed in Montana, not far from Glacier National Park, and owner Aimee has been hand-dyeing yarn for more than 15 years.

What makes Striata so special is its use of gradients. Unlike a variegated yarn, where multiple colors are scattered throughout the skein, a gradient yarn slowly shifts from one shade to another. As you knit or crochet, the colors naturally flow across your project, creating beautiful transitions without having to change yarns. It's one of my favorite ways to add visual interest while still letting the stitch pattern shine.

We picked up the fingering-weight Striata with lace shawls in mind—and boy, are we making them! Michelle will be leading a lacy shawl make-a-long later this year, so I'm getting a head start with my pattern as a sample - photos coming soon! It's a perfect match for Striata because it highlights those gradual color changes and makes for a fun one-skein project.

We couldn't choose just one colorway, so we brought home several of each! Stop by the shop and pick your favorite before they're gone.

Why Jacob Wool?!
Josh and Levi share some of the reasons why Jacob wool is so special.

🐏The sheep have 4 (or more!) horns.
🧥They are a primitive breed, but a little different in that they have one coat instead of two!
☁️ They are not quite as soft as a cloud, but they do have a medium fine fleece
🐼 The fleece is pied, and the patches of color are fun for handspinners

Why do you like Jacob sheep/wool/yarn?!

You can find some dyed by Levi (aka the rabbit of ) in our shop. You can also find some in a couple of weeks. Tell Kelli that Michelle sent you ;) we love their Jacob fleece💕

Happy Tool Tuesday! ⚒️

Have you ever used a row counter? This is definitely one tool that once you try it you don’t know how you got along without it!

Row counters are so useful for keeping track of the row you’re on, or how many repeats of a certain section you’ve done—no more scrambling to find the pen that rolled under the couch or thinking you’ll remember where you are since it’s only three rows but then get interrupted and lose track of where you are in the pattern!

You can use a row counter when knitting flat or in the round, and the extra clip allows you to count from 1-99 rows.

These beautiful row counters are made locally by Juneau of Wild Sage Arts, and they come in a rainbow of lovely flowers or cute mushrooms.

Stop in Wednesday through Sunday to get yours!

How do you like to use row counters?
