The Knot Trick That Keeps Christmas Light Strands Together
Wrapping a tree with Christmas lights? A few small details make it look like a professional install.
Start at the bottom with the male end, and start on the back of the tree so nobody sees the starting point from the house. Wrap in loose spirals. On this arborvitae, we used six to eight inch spacing. If you wrap too tight, the lights get buried in the branches.
The best tip is what happens when you connect two strands. Tie the ends in a small knot before you pull them tight. The wind will not pull them apart as easily, and the gap between the last bulb of one strand and the first bulb of the next gets a lot smaller.
How many strands would you guess this tree took?
