Rare book collecting has a funny way of showing you exactly how deep the rabbit hole goes. 📚 From my own old Bible leaves and 17th-century theology books to six-figure treasures at Rare Books LA, some books are meant to be owned…and some are meant to be admired from a very safe financial distance. 😎💸

My first rare book fair set the bar pretty high. 📚 From a $75,000 Lovecraft manuscript signed by Houdini to Tolkien, medieval manuscripts, Anne Rice, Doré, and more, Rare Books LA was packed with incredible finds—and some great conversations with vendors along the way.

Happy Anne Rice Day! 🧛📚 Fifty years after Anne Rice published Interview with the Vampire, Rare Books LA celebrated her legacy at Union Station with an incredible look at more than two centuries of vampire literature. From an 1819 first edition of John Polidori’s The Vampyre, to a $45,000 first edition of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, to a signed first edition of Interview with the Vampire and Anne Rice memorabilia, this was one of the coolest literary-history moments of the weekend. Newest Acquisition: an 1889 first edition of A Metrical Version of the Odes of Horace, translated by E. H. Stanley—and bound by the legendary London firm Zaehnsdorf. The gilt tooling, marbled endpapers, and fine leather binding made this one hard to pass up, but finding the Zaehnsdorf stamp was the real surprise!
