Are you planning to tear this down?”
That was the first question I asked when they opened the door three years ago.
I had just seen the quiet presence of an original mid-century modern home, and the thought of losing it felt almost tragic.
They said no.
I said “Thank God.”
And I was hired on the spot.
The request was clear and defined: restore the main house.
We rebuilt every system, reimagined the pool, and removed every inch of landscaping that had been there since the 1960s — all while carefully preserving the character of the original architecture.
As the renderings and planning evolved and the beauty of the house began to reappear, the vision expanded: “Let’s add on. “
Today I stepped outside to the front door to check for deliveries as the process continues — and stopped in my tracks.
The new guest wing looks as though it has always been here.
In architecture, that may be the highest compliment — when an addition feels not added, but inevitable.
There were moments along the way that required real steadfastness — like sailing through a storm knowing you will eventually reach the other side.
As a designer, I feel incredibly lucky to work with clients who trusted the process every step of the way. In a few months it will be completed.
Stay tuned.
