💡 LIGHTING 101 WITH LITES ETCETERA : WARMER ≠ DIMMER
One of the biggest lighting misconceptions we hear?
“I want a warmer light, so I need it to be dimmer.”
Not quite! 👏🏻
Color temperature tells you what COLOR the light appears, not how bright it is. It’s measured in Kelvin (K).
💛 2700K — Warm, cozy & inviting
Think lamps, bedrooms, living rooms and that comfortable “home” feeling.
🤍 3000K — Warm, but a little cleaner & crisper
One of our FAVORITES for homes! Great for kitchens, bathrooms and throughout the house.
💙 4000K+ — Cooler, brighter-looking white
Often feels more commercial or task-oriented in a residential space.
But here’s the important part:
A 2700K bulb can be JUST as bright as a 4000K bulb.
Brightness is measured in lumens.
Color temperature is measured in Kelvin.
So if your lights feel too bright, changing to a warmer bulb may make the room feel softer, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting less light.
✨ Want it actually darker? Lower the lumens or add a dimmer.
✨ Want it cozier? Lower the Kelvin.
And YES!! The wrong color temperature can completely change how your paint, countertops, cabinets, flooring and finishes look!
Lighting is about so much more than picking a pretty fixture 😉💡
