My oh my, I could just stare at her for days. 😍

I’m always amazed at seeing transformation photos because the changes can sometimes feel so easy and obvious when we see projects at a glance from our screens. But getting to this final phase often takes months of daydreaming, drawing, researching, planning, sampling and communicating with many people. It’s the process that makes the end result so much sweeter.

I see a few new faces here, so it was high time for a little re-introduction! I’m Laura, the creative brain behind Laura Pennington Interiors LLC. 🤍

A few design facts about me + a few random facts no one asked for 😂:

▪️I am drawn to warm, comfortable interiors with heavy European + historical influences

▪️One of my mantras is that I believe good design begins with empathy—meeting the home and the client exactly where they’re at.

▪️I grew up in the Fort Wayne area (Auburn!), but my husband and I lived in Nashville, TN for 5 years before moving back to Fort Wayne

▪️While I originally started college as an Interior Design major, I made a pivot and graduated with a degree in Art Therapy (which also proves very useful most days). Years later I went back and became certified in residential interior design

▪️While I didn’t recognize it at the time, some of my first careers out of college were major stepping stones back to interior design. I worked in sales at a high end appliance company, then worked for an environmental graphic design firm (think branded spaces, signage & wayfinding systems). All the while I was also a fine artist painting in my spare time.

▪️In addition to the roles above, I also became a mom. I have two girls and it’s the work I’m most proud of 🤍 I’ve grown my business over the last 7 years alongside parenting them full-time at home. This is the first year when everyone is at school and it’s a bittersweet feeling!

▪️My heart is for historic homes and/or working to infuse timeless character into newer homes

▪️I love coffee, reading, thrifting/antiquing, nostalgic movies (ie You’ve Got Mail), late night wine + chats with my husband, eating out, and taking vacations with my fam

▪️I can break a banana clean in half on my forehead (it’s my one party trick)

Thanks for being here and supporting this thing I’ve loved creating and growing. Excited to share more of what is happening behind the scenes!

Freedom to play 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽

Physical samples are everything when it comes to really honing in on finishes you love for your space. If you are early on in the design process, this is the time to play with materials, patterns, colors, fabrics, etc to help rule out ideas or see where your eye lands.

Home begins at the front door. 🤍🚪🤍

Your front door can say a lot about the history of your home, its architecture, and about you! It is a feature that can easily become an afterthought, but is hugely impactful to the character and function of your home.

When planning for a new entry door, a few initial questions to contemplate are:

▫️Style - Is the door style reflective of the architecture of the home?

▫️Position - Does the placement of the door feel balanced on the exterior and flow well for the interior?

▫️Scale - Double doors, single door, side lites? What feels proportional to the scale of the house?

▫️Material - Wood, fiberglass, steel…which material is a best fit for my end-use and aesthetic goals?

▫️Windows- How much light / privacy is desired at the front entry?

▫️Finish - stained or painted? Neutral or vibrant?

▫️Hardware - How can this final touch enhance the look of the door and the style I’m pursuing for my home?
