Ever since I was blessed with boys, I dreamed they’d play sports. Not even necessarily be good at them- but just try, learn, fail, succeed.
We’ve had a lot of stop starts and the primary reason for that was…another party. Another party that wouldn’t take them to practices. Another party that would encourage quitting because it was too much work. Another party who is no longer present, praise be.
I had almost abandoned it all (never pushing), but at the beginning of this freshman year, Landon told me he wanted to play baseball. We got some private coaching, knowing we’d be criminally behind. I stretched the ole checking account for these unexpected costs, but I did so with glee- like thank goodness the long johns arrived this morning.
And today my boy suited up and had his first practice games. He’s made friends (THAT ARE JUNIORS, DAD). He’s hustling. He’s having fun. Like me when I was in high school, he may not play this year or the next or the next, but he’s having a blast and once again, my heart is full.
The war was worth the pain and suffering and we continue to heal. Oh my heart 🥹
