SUMMER ON HOLD: Behind our Sunday cold front, a pattern shift is set to play out. The Great Lakes & New England are likely to go on an extended stretch of relatively cooler temperatures that could largely dominate the rest of the month of June. Early indications suggest a prolonged period of highs (generally) in the 70s and lows (generally) in the 50s across WNY.

Summer heat and humidity will no doubt return in time, but we may have to wait for July to find it again.

Come visit me at North Star Farm! The farmstands are open 9am - noon today, 6/13.
I’m making some peony bouquets and ranunculus jars. I’ll be out front with a great group of kids while their parents take yoga at 10am. 💐❤️

ABOUT NEXT WEEK: While heat and humidity headline this week, there is mounting evidence a shot of *relatively* cooler air is waiting next week. I've attached raw Euro model low temperature output for Monday morning next week. I'm looking forward to giving the A/C unit a rest!

The Hillsides are in Bloom, BUT...
Many of us grew up calling these roadside and hillside pink and purple flowers wild phlox, but look carefully. What you may be seeing is the non-native, aggressive wildflower, called Dame's Rocket, Hesperis matronalis. It is considered invasive.

,You can distinguish it from wild phlox by the number of petals. Dame's Rocket has four while Phlox has five.

You do not want to invite Dame's Rocket into your landscape. A single plant can produce 20,000 seeds, and smothers native wildflowers by creating dense stands that outcompete and crowd out native wildflowers in open woodlands, roadsides, and ditches. If you have it, you'll want to pull it or mow it before it sets seed. If you are planting wildflower seeds, you'll need to be careful because it is sometimes packed in wildflower mixes. Instead, look for Wild Blue Phlox, Phlox divaricata 'Blue Moon, for that spring beauty.

🔵 Micro Blue Moon 🔵

Tomorrow's Full Moon (09.45 in London) is a Blue Moon, the 2nd in May. It is a micromoon, at its farthest away from Earth.

The Full Moon is powerful of course, but on a personal note, the Blue Moon doesn't hold any extra magical significance for me than our other Full Moons. I like to live my life by the moon phases, not the dates on a calendar.

The Blue Moon is merely a second full moon in the month according to our Gregorian calendar which was introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII, a long time after our pagan roots which are centuries older than this.
