The final transformation of our updated spa bathroom was the shower. A very small, barely 4’x3’ prefabricated shower had served its purpose. We opened up an unused wall cavity to lengthen the shower, giving us space for a bench seat. Adding recessed lighting in the shower helps brighten the space and highlight the marbled tile and the marble threshold and framing of the pony wall. The angle of the ceiling posed quite the challenge for the custom glass, , but it turned out perfectly.

Wow, is Savannah fabulous. Spending the week as triplets celebrating our birthdays is the best. I discovered I enjoy a good mead while doing a “Lightly Sauced” tour at with . Lots of ghosts led us off-shore to Tybee Island for a tiki boat tour . Turning 60 felt like 16 with my besties.

Another design trend which has dated itself - oversized jetted bathtubs with deck surrounds. It needed to go. Removing the original structure gave my clients so much more space. A new, free-standing bathtub still allows for luxurious spa time. As a grandmother, my client wanted to make sure she still had a place for her grandchildren to enjoy playing in the bath. I think we achieved her wishes. Installing a heated towel bar added another layer of luxury and coziness for chilly days soon to arrive and to snuggle up her grandchildren.

My weekend project at the home of my fabulous sister, Tamerrah. She has such a wonderful, quirky sense of humor, which translates into the artwork she finds for her home. An awkwardly designed corner of my client’s bathroom received a great storage solution. I worked with my custom cabinet maker to design this custom built-in. We were able to give my clients a linen cabinet and a roll-out laundry cupboard. The angled ceiling was a challenge, but the triangulated panel fit perfectly. When demo’ing you never know what you’ll run into. Ductwork from the kitchen below caused us to alter the original design, but didn’t affect storage space.

A bathroom, which hadn’t been updated since the house was built in 1990, needed a huge makeover. My clients live on the edge of a creek and woods, so they wanted to bring the colors & creatures of nature indoors. The wallpaper’s flora & fauna motifs was the perfect backdrop. We went from a “well-used” bathroom to a “well-deserved” update.

Being an extremely small bathroom made this project a bit of a challenge. The clients also wanted to keep the existing floor tile, which extended into a neighboring mud room. Having a window less than six feet off the floor posed as another encroachment on the shower. However, tiling around the window casing and designing the shower glass around it, as well, gave us the ability to raise the shower head to a better height while also giving my clients the updates they desired. Embracing quirks and challenges is what keeps design interesting and fun.

This set of abandoned dining table legs made their way back to life as a sink console. I had my contractor refinish the legs and make the sink base for the soapstone vanity top. Copper details in the wall mount faucet and hand pounded basin finished the antique charm of this vanity.
