THE POWER OF A COLLECTED HOME

Welcome to the first edition of The PECKHOUSE Journal.

I wanted to create a place beyond social media where I could share more of what inspires our work at PECKHOUSE - Interiors, architecture, travel, beautiful materials, pieces with history, and the ideas behind creating a home that feels truly personal.

For our first issue, it seemed only fitting to begin with one of the ideas at the heart of PECKHOUSE:

A beautiful home doesn't have to be created all at once.

In fact, some of the most memorable interiors feel as though they have evolved over years.

They hold a mix of old and new. A piece discovered while traveling. An antique with beautiful age. Art chosen simply because you loved it. A well-made sofa that brings comfort to the room. Objects that have meaning alongside pieces chosen purely for their form, texture, or craftsmanship.

This is the power of a collected home.

THE ART OF THE MIX

Collected doesn't mean cluttered.

The most successful rooms are edited. They balance periods, materials, shapes, and finishes without allowing any one element to dominate.

Linen against polished brass.

Something refined beside something beautifully imperfect.

It is often the contrast that gives a room its character.

DESIGN NOTE

When a room feels too new, add something old.

When it feels too formal, introduce texture.

When everything matches, add something unexpected.

And when you're tempted to fill an empty space simply because it's empty...wait.

The right piece is worth waiting for.

COLLECT SLOWLY

There is freedom in realizing your home doesn't need to be "finished".

Allow it to evolve.

Buy fewer things but choose better things. Look for pieces with craftsmanship, beautiful materials, interesting silhouettes, and a sense of permanence.

Most importantly, choose things that mean something to you. Because ultimately, a collected home isn't about achieving a particular look.

It's about creating a home that could only belong to you.
