There will never be another quite like Dolly. 🦋✨

I grew up taking family vacations to Dollywood, and some of my favorite childhood memories are wrapped up in those trips. I still remember walking through her museum, completely fascinated by her incredible collection of clothes and costumes, and feeling like I was getting a little glimpse into the world of someone who seemed larger than life.

Dolly was so much more than the Queen of Country Music. She was kindness, generosity, talent, wit, and a heart of gold. She had a way of making people feel like they belonged, even from afar, she gave so much of herself to others, and somehow managed to make the world a little brighter just by being in it.

I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up with her music, her spirit, and those memories of Dollywood.

Thank you for the songs, the laughter, the rhinestones, and most of all, the love. What a legacy.

Rest easy, Dolly. The world will miss you dearly. 🤍

GROWN & GATHERED — A Field-to-Vase Floral Workshop

A Celebration of the Season: : tour the farm, harvest your flowers and create a lush arrangement in our immersive floral design class.

There is a certain magic in flowers grown by hand. At the height of the season, the fields are alive with color, movement, texture, and abundance. Flowers are blooming freely, the harvest is at its peak, and there is something especially beautiful about experiencing them exactly where they were grown.

This September, we invite you to spend an evening immersed in that experience at Atrina Farms in Elburn, Illinois, with flower farmer Scott Rocha and the floral designers of Farmdog Flowers.

We’ll begin in the field, where Scott will share the story behind Atrina Farms, his approach to growing specialty cut flowers, and the philosophy that guides his work. You’ll tour the farm, explore the seasonal flower fields, and learn about the flowers that make this time of year so special.
Then comes the harvest.

With your snips in hand, you’ll gather flowers directly from the field—choosing the colors, shapes, textures, and unexpected little details that speak to you.

From there, we’ll bring the harvest back to the studio.
Gerrit Husar and Danielle Mims of Farmdog Flowers will lead an immersive floral design masterclass exploring the elements and principles of luxury floral design, with a focus on working with locally grown, seasonal flowers.

Together, we’ll explore how to create an arrangement that feels abundant, natural, and beautifully composed while allowing the character of each individual flower to shine.
And then you’ll put it all together.

Using the flowers you gathered from the field, you’ll create a lush, garden-inspired arrangement to take home—an arrangement that carries with it the story of where it was grown, gathered, and designed.

This is more than a floral arranging class. It is an evening spent slowing down and experiencing the full journey of a flower—from the field, through the hands of its grower, and into the hands of the designer.

A celebration of the season.
A collaboration between grower and designer.
A few beautiful hours surrounded by flowers.

Grown & Gathered.
A true field-to-vase experience.

Hello! We’ve had so many wonderful new faces join us recently, so it feels like the perfect time for a little introduction. 🌻 I’m Gerrit, the owner of Farmdog Flowers. What started as a small idea in early 2020 has grown into a flower and gift shop, luxury floral studio, and a business far beyond what I could have imagined when I first started.

A little about me:
– My favorite flowers are peonies, garden roses, and hellebores.
– I have a serious sweet tooth, and tiramisu is my favorite dessert.
– I love weddings—every part of them. I’ll cry at a ceremony even if I don’t know the couple.
– I’m happiest surrounded by flowers, beautiful spaces, and a little bit of controlled chaos.
– I’m a firm believer that the little details are what make something memorable.

Farmdog wouldn’t be what it is without the incredible people who work alongside me, or without the support of this community. What began as a little idea over six years ago has become something I’m incredibly proud of.

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just found us recently, thank you for being here.
