Meet the Artist: Juan Baldor
Award-Winning Local Artist ā¢ Acrylic Painter ā¢ Gilmer, Texas
Born in Havana, Cuba, Juan Baldor is an award-winning, self-taught acrylic artist who began painting in 2001. While he enjoys the challenge of capturing a wide variety of subjects, his greatest passion has always been animals, bringing each one to life with remarkable detail, personality, and emotion.
After a distinguished 40-year career as an educator, Juan and his wife, Beth, a native of Big Sandy, Texas, chose to make Gilmer their home in 2016. Together they have become an important part of East Texasā artistic community, sharing both their talents and their hearts through art.
Juan and Beth have collaborated on numerous projects over the years, including an impressive 8-foot by 20-foot mural of Noahās Ark completed in 2018 for the childrenās wing at Rosewood Baptist Church in Gilmer. More recently, in 2025, they created a beautiful collection of paintings depicting key moments in the life of Christ for New Hope Baptist Church in Big Sandy, Texas.
Art has become more than a creative outlet for the Baldorsāit has become a ministry. One hundred percent of the proceeds from their faith-based artwork is donated to childrenās ministries around the world, including:
* Siloe Baptist Church ā Honduras
* One Way Community Ministry ā Guatemala
* Para Perie Ministry ā Peru
Juanās artistic excellence has also been recognized throughout the community. He earned Best of Show at the 2025 Yamboree Art Show and has proudly participated in the annual exhibition since moving to Gilmer in 2016.
