Set among the quiet woods of Holland, Michigan, this summer home was designed from the ground up for a longtime friend.

Warm, honeyed woods are paired with matte black accents for a clean yet inviting balance. Throughout the home, green tile and natural stone reflect the surrounding landscape, tying the interiors back to the lakeside setting.

One of our favorite details: a fully custom “sand room,” designed for easy post-beach cleanup for both people and pets.

Demo is well underway at our project, where we're completely reimagining this primary bathroom and closet to be light, airy, calm, and blue-hued.

Finally, this couple can go about their morning routines without stepping on each other's toes.

This Hinsdale primary bath was reworked to function with ease. Two generous vanities provide the space and storage that was missing, while the layout allows for a smoother, more comfortable routine.

A palette of oceanic blues and warm caramel-toned woods brings depth, and the freestanding tub beneath the window (framed by custom cabinetry) anchors the room as both a focal point and a place to unwind. →

These crucial layout decisions matter more than you might think ↓

1. Where you enter a space, and what you see first. Sightlines set the tone, and a well-placed focal point creates clarity the moment you walk in.
2. How rooms connect to each other. More than the individual spaces, we prioritize how the kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together. That determines how a home feels.
3. Placement of architectural moments. Walls, openings, ceiling lines, and built-ins should guide the eye and anchor the space.
4. Furniture planning from the start. Layouts should anticipate how the room will be used so that seating, scale, and spacing feel natural.

We take all of these into consideration when mapping out our layouts. These decisions act as the foundation, and when that works, the other details fall into place.

This Elmhurst modern farmhouse held years of family memories, but it was ready for a more elevated next chapter.

We shifted the palette to deeper, moodier tones. Layers of grey and navy that add richness and contrast. Patterned tile introduces moments of interest in the kitchen and powder room. Contemporary artwork and clean-lined metal accents bring a fresh, refined edge.

Most clients start a renovation zoomed all the way in; on hardware, tile, paint colors, or appliances.

It makes sense. It’s easier to focus on what’s in front of you than to reimagine the entire space. But our role as a designer is to zoom out.

We look at the layout and how the space can better support your day-to-day. Where the real impact lives. Then we guide the decisions from there, one focused set at a time. This way, nothing feels overwhelming, and everything works together.
