Our Magdalena...

One of the most amazing things to happen in our lives, was the birth of this beautiful little lamb on our property on March 6th, 2017. It’s sad that her mama abandoned her at birth, but a wonderful blessed event that my husband and I were able to raise her ourselves. She’s just so amazing, and a big, beautiful sheep today!

Black Sheep Handworx Studio, and our new logo is inspired by Magdalena, even though the only black she has on her is one small spot on her right hip! I started the Black Sheep Gathering as a wool applique group on Sunday, October 9th, 2011 when I worked at Quilters’ Corner. The group has kept going every 2nd Sunday, once a month, since then and has followed me from place to place. Now we have 57 Club members from various communities around the Western Slope.

The monthly gathering is the inspiration for the name of my new studio, Black Sheep Handworx Studio, which opened officially on June 11, 2018 in a temporary location. We are currently located in the old R-5 School Building (Lowell Building) on the corner of 7th & Grand.

The mission and purpose of the Studio is to promote the Art and Education of various types of hand embroidery, beginning with Wool Applique, but not ending there. We now feature classes on Hand Embroidery/Stitchery, Punch Needle, Brazilian Embroidery, Silk Ribbon Embroidery, Knitting, Crochet, Needle Felting, Spinning, Tatting, Beading, Hardanger, Weaving, Swedish Weaving, French Boutis, and Japanese Sashiko to name a few. We have over a dozen teachers who offer classes in over 15 different disciplines throughout the year.
