Hello Everyone. We will be celebrating Rita in both Duluth and Grand Marais at the end of this month. Please see below for further information. And thank all of you who have expressed your love and sympathies in these last few months.

Rita (Loiselle) Beckman, of Grand Marais, passed away on January 8, 2026.

Please join us to honor Rita's life on Friday, May 29, 2026 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Duluth. Visitation starts at 10am, funeral services at 11am, with interment at Calvary Cemetery and a luncheon to follow at Grandma's in Canal Park.

A more informal Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 11am-1pm at That Little Red House in Grand Marais. All who knew and loved Rita are invited to attend.

In the nearly two months since we lost our beloved mom (or Gran in certain circles 🩷), Rita Beckman, we have been overwhelmed by the love and support shown by this incredible community.

We’ve received so many kind messages from everyone, including several people expressing a level of interest in purchasing the shop and its inventory, because Rita and That Little Red House meant so much to them. We want you to know how much this means to our family.

As we continue to navigate the probate process, we’re beginning to thoughtfully consider what the future of the shop might look like.

If you have genuine interest in potentially purchasing the shop, we would be grateful if you’d reach out to us privately in Messenger. We are simply trying to get a grasp on the level of interest as we move forward with care and intention.

Again, thank you all for honoring Rita, for loving the yarn shop, and for being part of the community she cherished so much. Your kindness during this time has meant more than we can express.

It is with broken hearts that we share with you the passing of Rita Beckman, the owner and sweet spirit behind That Little Red House, Grand Marais’ beloved yarn shop for more than 20 years.

Rita loved her shop, but what she loved more were the people who walked through its door. Rita had a way of making everyone feel at home. Customers became friends. Friends became family.

As her children, we want you to know how often she spoke of you. She carried your stories with her, and they brought her deep happiness. She felt grateful every single day for this community and for the connections she made through the shop.

So on behalf of Rita, we want to thank you for all the wonderful years of patronage, kindness, and friendship. You mattered deeply to her. And please remember that the warmth and specialness you felt in That Little Red House was all Rita. And she will live on in the memories, the love, and the sprinkle of magic she left behind in Grand Marais.

Happy New Year to every one!
Just adding an important note here. Each year, at this time, I close the shop for inventory, restocking, cleaning etc., etc. and this year will be no different. So, the next time the shop will be open is Friday,February 2, 2024 (unless I am at the shop and you need something in an emergency situation ) 😄

It's (unofficially) THE HOLIDAY SEASON!

This is truly a special time of year at That Little Red House. Everyone who visits the shop seems so excited to create wonderful and cherished gifts for the people they love. And I am excited for them! I see the care they take in selecting the perfect yarn for mittens, socks, scarves, blankets, sweaters, hats and so many more heartfelt projects.

So to all of you stopping by the shop this holiday season, please know how inspired I am by all of you - and how sincerely I know whatever you make for your loved ones will be a prized possession for years to come.

This is such a fun NFL Football Season project from Skacel!

It's called the Scoreboard knit-together. Scoreboard is a hand-knit wearable record of your favorite professional or college football team's season, with each row representing both points scored and points allowed. Even though we are several weeks into the season, it is easy to catch up (Skacel has a running scoreboard for every team!)

Designed using HiKoo® Simplicity, the Scoreboard cowl is worked in a team’s two main colorways, with many knitters opting to add a third color to create visual breaks between games.
