It’s Bri-Cycling Day in Grand Marais!
Second Wednesday of the month, 9-noon.
Treasures are found every week!
Right now I’m focusing on jars for candles, but as soon as the warm weather hits, bottle cutting will commence!
The cool stuff I hoard, the rest I haul to other municipalities that have glass recycling services. Someday I’ll have my own crusher! One step at a time, baby!

Great news! Glass is one of the few things that can be recycled ENDLESSLY without loss of quality (The European Container Glass Federation).

And used jars make really rad candles. 🤗🕯️🫶

Ready to be part of positive change? 💪

There are many reasons small towns don’t recycle glass:

1. Glass breaks easily during collection and transport making it difficult (and dangerous!) to sort with other items.

2. Glass is hard on trucks and processing equipment…

3. …and that special equipment needed for glass is oftentimes way too much for a small town’s budget.

4. Because glass is heavier than, say, cardboard or plastic, it also costs a lot more to haul.

So, if your town or municipality doesn’t have a glass recycling program keep in mind it’s probably not because they don’t WANT to, it’s just not always feasible!

That’s why we have to band together and do what’s in our power to make a difference.
