New Day, new bedroom for a happy ten year old.

You know how when you hit the double digits...princesses, unicorns and lavendar are just too juvenile. You've matured beyond those nonsensical things and you need gold accents and fairy lights in your life now. Ngl, I'm low key trying to see if I can swing a canopy bed with fairy lights in my own room. I'm in the double digits too and it just feels right.

Even though I could see my breath and was wrapped up in a giant blanket like a human taco for survival at my kids' outdoor games yesterday, spring is officially here. I took down my front porch Christmas decor an embarrassingly short time ago, but let's not dwell on the past and instead focus on this New Day room glow up (swipe for before) .

This client got new carpet and then a new couch, so she was in the mood to really shake things up with a new look. We went back and forth about keeping the green, but ultimately went with Alabaster on the walls to really give cozy and neutral feels. We curated the wall decor mostly at . Y'all know how I feel about a good wall decor moment like this. I love little collections, big gallery walls, the perfect single piece, keeping a theme or mixing shapes and sizes. The right and wrong wall decor will be a huge factor in how your home presents and how it makes people feel. It's worth a little tlc.

I think we all deserve a trophy for making it through the Monday after Daylight Savings. None of us are going to get one so maybe treat yourself to a cocktail or a pedicure. Or just a scoop of ice cream, maybe a cup of hot tea. Tacos. A bath. A shower if the bathtub is dirty. Whatever you can do, you've earned it. Personally, I got out of bed around 7:40 this morning to get my kids ready for the bus and it felt like the middle of the night (I know I have it good with 7:40). The sun is setting as I write this post, and we did it.

I'm not trying to brag but I did some stuff today too. I even put on a blazer and it warranted a selfie. I toured this cool show room for designers that's new to GR. I met a couple of potential clients, one of them being a snazzy gal who wants to paint her bedroom pink (inspo pic attached, my kinda lady. The inspo pic is an actual magazine page because she's of the generation that still does magazines).

When I got home I started prying shoe molding off my wall because I have a whole pallet of new flooring for my main floor that's just waiting on me to remove this trim before it starts going down. I did exactly one wall and decided enough was enough. It's a hard day, what do I think I'm doing anyways. Then I laid in my bed and ate a cheese stick and some kit kats for my girl dinner. Thanks for listening.

You probably won't have to feel this decrepit or confused until next year when this day happens.✌️

Can we take a moment to appreciate how much more fun kitchens were in the 1950's?

I went on a museum field trip with my daughter's class and saw this little gem in their "American homes throughout the decades" exhibit.

It got me thinking that the problems in America today probably started when we did away with pink refrigerators. I'm no expert, but I'm also pretty sure I'm right. We have revived butterfly clips and bib overalls. My kids have tamagotchi pets and pre-teens are buying record players. Why are we still out here with shiny kitchen appliances that hold fingerprints like a criminal database. I just want to know when pastel appliances will have their moment again, that's all. Enjoy your week.

A fuunnnn project this week 🩵🔆🩵

This client and I have been working together for months to perfect the vision for this room. I painted it, then we decided the color wasn't exactly what we had in mind so immediately repainted it after tweaking the color twice, then I applied the wallpaper to the ceiling (an extra dramatic statement with the vault but this was the perfect room for it), then I switched out the old school ceiling fan for an updated fan/light combo that coordinates with her lighting throughout the rest of the home. It's a whole mood and I'm obsessed. I have a soft spot for jewel tones. I have a soft spot for a lot of tones but this dark teal...this dark teal is it. I can't wait to get the furniture added and put the finishing touches in here.

We were on a family vacation last week that was amazing, but there's nothing like a vacation to make you want another vacation, am I right? Unfortunately that's not the way it works, so this was a fun project to jump back into reality with.

Here's your Monday reminder that a coat of paint can change your life.

Am I being dramatic? Yes. Drama is my specialty (the good kind, not the Kanye West kind). Does the point stand regardless? Also yes.

This client likes a modern, clean aesthetic. That's not going to happen with a cherry wood banister. We're working on revamping her whole main floor, but the staircase transformation is a statement of its own. The house was built in the early 2000's when red tones were really having a moment (think brown and red and strange circle/geometric patterns--now stop thinking because it was awful). We looked into replacing it, but ultimately the details weren't the problem, just the color. Alas, paint for the win once again. Bonus: More room in the budget for other fun stuff.

Hope everyone is having a great first normal week of 2024. The kids are back in school, the adults are back to the office. The Christmas decor is coming down and the outside trash bins are no longer exploding wrapping paper and toy packages onto your driveway and curb every time the wind blows. You're looking around your house now that the tree and piney greenery are down and thinking about how boring and empty it looks. It's okay, I'm here for you. 616.240.9292.

I like fresh starts. (Hence the name..."New Day" Interiors.)
I wanted to incorporate the idea of starting fresh in my business name, because my goal is to help you do that.
It's also a nod to my favorite verse (above).
New weeks, new months, new mornings, new beginnings, new goals, and of course, new years. I love the natural reset that comes along with them.
2024 brings with it some new changes for myself and New Day Interiors. Many of you know that in addition to hustling with my business, I've also maintained a part time "day job". I've decided to step away from that, which means I can put all of my focus here.
I've been so fortunate since first starting that so many of you have trusted me with your home. I've been able to keep busy thanks mostly to word of mouth referrals, so keep them coming! I'll now have the capacity to take on larger projects. I'm working on some New Year specials, but please reach out if you have a project in mind. If you simply need walls painted, several rooms redesigned, or something in between, I'd be happy to chat with you!

Thanksgiving didn't go as planned for us this year.

We were supposed to host our family, but instead ended up with one case of hand foot & mouth, a couple fevers and a stomach bug in our house. We ate alone (leftovers my MIL graciously dropped off), my kids whined about how it was the worst Thanksgiving ever, and I lectured them on how it was all their fault because they're gross.

The upside was that I had a few consecutive days at home to focus on Christmas decorating.

I did two trees in the living room and I feel like it's exactly the magic I had hoped for. Fueled by dopamine and Pinterest, I got up early on black Friday and deserted my afflicted family to go buy some new ornaments and coordinate my trees. I drank a peppermint mocha and listened to MC while I decorated and didn't let my children touch anything I was doing. (There's 4 other trees in the house. They didn't suffer.)

Next year I'm imagining multiple trees on each side of the fireplace. Varying sizes, a majestic indoor Christmas forest if you will. Someone stop me.
