Inside Our 1920s Revival
This 1920s Colonial Revival had been sitting on the market for a long time. It had been remodeled many times over the years. And we were brought in to help bring the interiors back to something that would honor the home’s history while also fitting our clients’ personality. In the end, there wasn’t a single inch of this house that we didn’t touch. Not a single inch!

Cheers to my team!

Welcome to the heart of this home, LITERALLY!

The kitchen sits right in the center of the home.

When you're in here, you can see into the orangery, dining room, den, and office. Everything pivots off this space.

So it had to be very functional… but also beautiful.

We incorporated arched glass cabinetry — not because we love an arch (although I do) — but because the house already had arched doorways throughout.

We’re not random on the arches.

We also brought dentil molding from the exterior into the kitchen crown. Little details like that matter to me. It helps the kitchen feel like it belongs.

Elegant enough for entertaining. Effortless enough for everyday.

That’s always the balance.

Inside The Orangery

I have to say… the Orangery is my favorite.

It was a new addition, so we were able to start from scratch.

The goal was to keep it very light and airy, but bring in a lot of texture.

Whitewashed oak ceiling.
A painted floor pattern instead of rugs.
A custom mural bursting from one corner and spreading through the room.

It’s not a space I see often in Michigan homes.

And now? They eat most of their meals here.

When a family naturally gravitates to a room, you know you got it right.

Welcome to our Refined Revival.

This project was really special for us because it encompassed everything I love about design.

It had history.
It had attention to detail.
It was about bringing something back to life.
It was about bringing the family together.

This 1920s Colonial Revival had been remodeled… badly. More than once.

So, we were brought in to help facilitate bringing the interiors back to something that would honor the history of the home and also fit the personality of our clients.

There wasn’t a single inch of this house that we didn’t touch.

The question became:
How do we take this house into the next 100 years?

That’s always the goal.

Room-by-room tour starts now.

Original custom woodwork in this stunning 1920’s Georgian style home lay a warm foundation for this cozy den and dining space.

We covered a tuxedo sofa in a beautiful plaid, I love plaid! This pattern feels stately with a twist; a bit of indigo and purple add vibrancy.

The wing back chairs are one of my favorite finds from a buying trip to France. Dating from the late 19th century, it is a mix of English Edwardian/French XV/Rococo Revival - oh how I LOVE a masterful mix!!

We recovered the chairs in purple velvet with brush fringe trim - which feels very true to this clients style.

For the dining area, new art, accessories and recovered chairs finish the room in a fresh way.

One aspect of design that is important to me, for every project and my own home, is finding things that feel original. Layering in pieces I’ve found while shopping at French markets, local Michigan antique shops and family keepsakes is my favorite way to bring authenticity to a home.

There’s nothing worse than walking into a home that looks just like your neighbors, best friends, or sisters…. When a home pulls on the past for inspiration it has lasting power.

Here we framed antique fabric sample pages from a book of silk I purchased in France. Paired on the right with antique wall sconces and a Chinese painting scroll our client inherited from his Grandmother. New upholstery and side tables.

Vintage mirror and painting.

Mid century Italian lounge chair covered in a fresh boucle.

Our clients existing lounge chairs, with new black marbled wallpaper to accent the existing marble fireplace surround.

We reworked this floor plan to create a Primary Bedroom that provided expansive views with new floor to ceiling windows. One part of a large scale renovation of this historic home.

This home, melt in the 1960s had a small series of bedrooms that no longer made sense for how we live today. This family loved modern architecture and loved this house. This was there forever house!

Black textural, wallpaper, adds drama and coziness to this spacious room. The inside outside connection works beautifully in this private wooded property!

Bedside manner…

I fell in love with these wall sconces while traveling in France. Reminiscent of a sunflower in aged brass, they fit perfectly into this primary bedroom design.

Wall sconces on either side of the bed offer flexible general light for a room. I always like to include a reading lamp for more focused light. Layering is key.

Variety is what makes a home interesting. When friends and family come over and say….

“Wow, where did you get that!!??”

“I’ve never seen this before!”

“Your home feels like YOU!”

A modern take on the slipper chair in cobalt blue contrast against polka dot draperies and crane wallpaper reminiscent of traditional East Asian motifs.
