My oldest made it a goal to earn $1000 this year. He’s not quite old enough to mow lawns, so my coworker gave me the idea to offer to clean out the trash bins around the neighborhood. The only problem was that the power washer I bought off marketplace last summer was cumbersome and not up to s***f. I was so excited when I learned about this Kobalt Tools battery operated power washer from Lowe's Home Improvement that attaches directly to your hose. It is so easy to use directly out of the box. No plug, no giant tank, just one easy to use tool! Next up, coming up with a great marketing flyer to sell his services to the neighbors!

I wasn’t planning to refresh our basement this year…But then our puppy ruined the carpet. It ended up being the push I needed.

I updated this room back in 2019 to give my boys a great playroom. Now they are older. There are still toys, but there are also friend hangs, puzzles and video games. Instead of a full renovation, I’m giving this space a refresh that works for the season we’re in now.

If you’re wondering why this project seems to be taking so long, it’s because I’m a working mom fitting updating my home I to the margins. But that’s the thing about starting and chipping away consistently. It will get done.

A little reintroduction.

Every time I think about what I want this space to be I come back to encouraging people (women) to live a creative life, by tackling DIY home projects that feel big and scary, by dusting off their sewing machine or by creating a maker community.

I hope you can come here and feel inspired, rather than intimidated to tackle your projects. I’m just a regular mom, with very limited time, and a budget way too small to hire a professional, trying to fit it all in, build a space I love to raise my boys and create a community to share it all with.

If you’ve been waiting until you feel ready, consider this your permission slip.

Is your thermostat from the 1900s? Mine definitely was until I upgraded to a . I was able to install it in about an hour with no HVAC professional required. I also added smart sensors to our bedrooms, so we are not heating or cooling rooms that are unoccupied, keeping it comfortable and energy efficient. Lux Thermostat can be paired with your smart home device, but if you are one of the last hold outs, like me, an additional app or device is not required. I am so glad I brought this detail of my home into this century.

This is a sign to take yourself on a solo art date, and no better time than Third Thursdays. Did you know that the third Thursday of every month there are deals, happenings, street musicians and more down town Grand Rapids. Last month I stopped into to view some amazing student work, before strolling down to , where they are open late and have free admission. My only regret was not ending my evening at .

I am the absolute luckiest to be the center of the universe for these three little people.

I am the one they fight over to put them to bed. I am the the person they run to when they get hurt or when they do something great. I am the person they are most excited to share their art work with and the one to hear about the kid at school who called them a name. I am it.

Motherhood is hard and tiring and fun and inspiring. It is so many things. And it is the honor of my life being their mom.

Thank you for this snapshot of my mothering.

Happy Mother’s Day! May all the mothers be celebrated for the gravity they hold being the center of someone’s universe.

Hang out with me while I get my deck ready for spring. The smartest upgrade? Swapping in this outdoor sconce with outlet. It has a hidden plug (genius), which completely changed how I use the space.

My deck runs the full length of the house but only had one outlet—now I can plug in my power washer, string lights, and even a speaker for easy entertaining.

This app is going to change my life! But seriously, I just downloaded about a week ago. It was so easy to use their quick add feature to create a full list of all my plants. I’m not exaggerating to say until this app I watered all 20 of my plants twice a week. I quickly learned that each plant needs individual care, and most do not need to be watered twice a week. created a very easy to use watering, fertilizer and misting schedule. It also shows gives me suggestions for plants that aren’t in the best health. I am really excited to use this app to help my plants thrive!
