I have been working on two baby mobiles for some friends each expecting their first baby. They took weeks and were incredibly labor intensive but I was so pleased with the results. Then I forgot to get final photos!
Here are the mobiles right before I strung them together. I added small branch slices with live edges to the woodland mobile. The center of the woodland mobile was the three leaves strung smallest to largest.
The center of the fishing mobile was the lure with the hooks suspended beneath.

Every summer I want to carve more but get pulled outside to the care of the garden and children.
But I did make time to carve these four cereal spoons for a friend. They all came from the same piece of tigerwood and I love how they each have their own personalities! My favorite is the second from the right, how about you?

I went to finish a woodworking project but my workbench currently looks like an eye spy book.

Can you find:
- Luke’s flosser
- Johannah’s bracelet
- My reading glasses (been looking for them!)
- Anastasia’s water bead container
- Trevor’s measuring tape
- My almost finished woodworking project

The vast variety of wood types and colors never ceases to amaze me and it was a joy getting to know the personality and grain of each of these species as I carved this collection.
Each spoon came from a different type of tree: some were short and stocky trees, some were massive and majestic. Some withstood harsh icy winters while others endured a blazing tropical sun.
All waved branches in praise of their Creator and now a small piece of each is collected into a bouquet on my counter: a testament to the infinite creativity of the Lord.

If you would like your own bouquet, I’d love to take on your project! You choose how many spoons you would like and what species. Each spoon is $20.

Top row left to right: Cherry, Redheart, Yellowheart, Pau Brasil, Maple, Hawaiian (not sure exact name), Walnut, Lacewood

Bottom row: Canary, Tigerwood, Rosewood, Olive, Tigerstripe Maple

Creation sings of a new year and the Chinese will soon be celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Dragon on February 10th! My family is planning making dumplings and enjoying the challenge of eating with chopsticks. Join the celebration of the Chinese New Year!

Considering the new year, I love the prayer in The Valley of Vision called Year’s End, “Thy goodness will be with me in the year ahead; I hoist sail and draw up anchor, with thee as the blessed Pilot of my future as of my past.” I hope that you take a moment to consider Him whose goodness never changes year after year, and whose power will bring forth each season of 2024.

Special thanks to my husband, Trevor, for sharpening my tools, encouraging me in this endeavor, and putting up with wood chips being scattered across our house. Thanks to my dad, Mike, for cheerfully sawing out all my wood blanks. And thank you to everyone who has purchased pieces, encouraged me, and liked or shared this page! Merry Christmas!

Christmas remembers that Jesus came to save the least and the lost, God in human flesh, the long awaited Savior who continues to gather sinners to himself 2000 years later. We have much to celebrate, so let the festivities begin!

Utensil Highlight – Rose Stirring Spoon: I have a beautiful silver teaspoon from my grandmother and love it so much that I styled this stirring spoon after it. It took me several days to carve with the tiny details, but I think the result speaks for itself. I’m excited to learn more about carving roses, perhaps after Christmas.

Working on the final piece for my next available set of utinsils and hoping to post them the 1st of December!
I’m still in the ugly duckling phase of this coffee scoop, but isn’t olivewood so beautiful?!

I stopped by our local mill, Atwood Forest Products, to build up my store of tigerwood while they have it in stock. Most pieces were completely blond with no color variation and then there was this beauty.
Pictured below is a Gonçalo-Alves tree, most commonly found in Brazil, and it is from these lovely trees that we get Tigerwood.
I am forever astonished by the beauty that God designed into trees: bark patterns, leaf shapes and colors, soaring heights, massive root systems, and an enormous variety of fruits and nuts. And in addition to all that, He also made their interiors beautiful and useful. God is so good!
I can’t wait to sit down and work with this these boards.
Christmas is coming, stay tuned if you would like to bless a friend or family with a gift made from Tigerwood!

Still Available:
Ginkgo Tea Saucer/Ring Holder: $30

With every leaf that falls Thanksgiving draws closer, as does the advent season! For all you early Christmas shoppers, here is an opportunity to shop for completely hand carved, one of a kind gifts for family or friends.

Please direct message me for purchasing instructions.

Utensil Highlight: The Bent Spatula was carved from a single, unglued piece of lightly curled maple. It was a very frustrating design to figure out and there is a good chance I will not make another one, so if you like it, today is your day! There are few other places you will ever find a wooden spatula carved to such a sharp angle as this one.

Wood Highlight: Introducing Apple Wood, grown in our neighboring town of Newaygo! This was my first time working with this type of wood and my first time ever carving green wood. Apple wood is absolutely beautiful with soft color variations and extremely tight wood grain. It is also one of the hardest woods I have ever carved!

All pieces finished with Real Milk Paint Company Wood Wax: Walnut Oil and Carnauba Wax, Vegan & Nontoxic, VOC and Solvent Free.
