We just added something pretty special to The Downtown Oddity Parlor.

This vintage American Scale Mfg. Co. Model 403 Character Reading Scale dates to around the late 1940s–1950s and was built to do two things at once — tell you your weight and your fortune.

Step onto the scale, choose the slot for your birth month, drop in a penny… then watch as your weight and fortune are revealed.

Machines like this were once placed in shops and public spaces as little coin-operated attractions — and roughly 75 years later, this one is back doing exactly what it was made to do.

And yes… it works.

Next time you're at The Downtown Oddity Parlor, bring a penny and tempt fate. 👀
