⛪ WEEK 5 RESTORATION UPDATE ⛪
📍 St. Bridget Catholic Church | Scammon, Kansas

As Week 5 comes to a close, restoration work continues to move forward at St. Bridget Catholic Church!

Our team remains focused on the extensive plaster repairs throughout the church, using USG Structo-Lite and Gold Bond Gypsolite plaster products to restore deteriorated areas and preserve the integrity of the church's historic plaster surfaces.

We're also beginning the next phase of preparation in several completed areas. Restored plaster surfaces are being primed with KILZ oil-based primer, while newly installed sheetrock is receiving KILZ PVA primer in preparation for the decorative finishes to come.

While much of the work at this stage may not be immediately noticeable, proper surface preparation is essential to achieving a beautiful, long-lasting finish.

Each week brings us another step closer to transforming this historic church and restoring the beauty of this sacred space for generations to come.

✨ Reimagining Sacred Spaces — Just for Inspiration ✨

What if a simple, modest Catholic sanctuary could be transformed into a space filled with the beauty, reverence, and timeless traditions of sacred architecture?

In this latest installment of our Reimagining Sacred Spaces series, Ecclesiastical Studios & Sons explores the possibilities of transforming an existing sanctuary into something truly extraordinary, while respecting its original architectural character and sacred purpose.

📸 BEFORE & AFTER — A Vision of What Could Be!

The first image shows the sanctuary in its present condition, with its exposed brick walls, wood-paneled ceiling, simple furnishings, and understated decoration.

The second image presents our digitally reimagined vision, incorporating elements inspired by traditional Catholic church design:

✝️ A More Prominent Crucifix — A richly decorated sanctuary backdrop featuring deep burgundy, ornamental gold detailing, and traditional Catholic symbolism, drawing attention to Christ at the center of the sanctuary.

🕊️ The Holy Spirit — A beautiful representation of the Holy Spirit surrounded by radiant golden rays, creating a striking focal point above the crucifix.

🎨 Traditional Decorative Painting — Ornamental borders, intricate stenciling, gilded accents, and rich colors bring warmth, depth, and visual harmony to the existing architecture.

🌟 A Celestial Ceiling — Deep blue panels adorned with golden stars, complemented by decorative borders that accentuate the sanctuary's dramatic roofline.

⛪ Traditional Sanctuary Furnishings — A beautifully detailed marble-inspired altar, ornate tabernacle, and complementary architectural finishes create a more unified and reverent setting.

🪟 Sacred Art & Architectural Details — Decorative stained glass, traditional Gothic-inspired lighting, and enhanced statuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph complete the transformation.

The goal isn't simply to make a church more decorative. It's to demonstrate how sacred art, traditional craftsmanship, thoughtful color selection, and architectural detailing can work together to create an atmosphere that inspires prayer, devotion, and reverence.

At Ecclesiastical Studios & Sons, we believe that even the simplest sacred spaces hold tremendous potential. Sometimes, all it takes is a little imagination to reveal what could be possible.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a purely conceptual digital rendering created for artistic inspiration and exploration. No physical renovations are planned, proposed, approved, or scheduled for this sanctuary. The images are intended solely to illustrate potential design possibilities.

We enjoy sharing these creative explorations as a way to celebrate the beauty of traditional Catholic church interiors and the enduring craftsmanship of the sacred arts.

⛪ WEEK 3 UPDATE – ST. BRIDGET CATHOLIC CHURCH
📍 Scammon, Kansas

Another busy week is wrapping up at St. Bridget Catholic Church, and the plaster restoration is officially in full swing! 🔨

As we continue bringing new life to this beautiful historic church, much of our attention is focused on something that most people won't notice once the project is finished — the preparation and repair work beneath the paint.

And believe us, this is some of the most important work we do!

When it comes to restoring historic church interiors, proper plaster repair involves much more than simply filling a few cracks and painting over them.

Our process begins with carefully inspecting the existing plaster, identifying loose and deteriorated areas, and removing damaged material while preserving as much of the original plaster as possible.

From there, we properly prepare and stabilize the surfaces, address cracks and damaged sections, and rebuild areas using compatible plaster materials. Each repair is carefully worked and finished to blend with the surrounding surfaces.

Once the repairs have properly cured and dried, the surfaces can be prepared for priming and, eventually, the decorative finishes that will bring this beautiful church interior back to life.

Why go through all this trouble?

Because a beautiful paint job is only as good as the surface underneath it!

Covering up failing plaster might look good temporarily, but it doesn't solve the underlying problems. Our goal isn't simply to make St. Bridget look beautiful again — it's to help preserve this sacred space for generations to come.

🙏 There's something truly special about working inside these historic churches. Every crack, every worn surface, and every layer of old plaster tells part of the building's story. We're honored to play a role in preserving that history.

As Week 3 comes to an end, we're making great progress, and there's still plenty of exciting work ahead!

📸 Follow along as we continue the restoration of St. Bridget Catholic Church! We'll be sharing more progress photos and behind-the-scenes updates as the transformation continues.

✨ Reimagining Sacred Spaces — Just for Inspiration ✨

What if a familiar chapel could be transformed into something richer, warmer, and more visually inspiring—while still honoring the architecture, intimate scale, and sacred purpose of the space?

The first image shows the chapel as it currently stands. In the second, we digitally reimagined the interior through a more traditional Catholic design approach—exploring how sacred artwork, architectural detailing, decorative stenciling, rich colors, marble finishes, traditional pews, ornamental elements, and a more prominent sanctuary could bring greater warmth, beauty, reverence, and visual harmony to the space.

This concept is about more than simply decorating a room. It demonstrates how thoughtful design can help draw the eye—and the heart—toward the sacred. Even a modest chapel can be elevated through carefully considered color, proportion, craftsmanship, and traditional ecclesiastical artistry.

This is part of our Reimagining Sacred Spaces series, where Ecclesiastical Studios & Sons takes existing churches and chapels and re-envisions them through the lens of decorative painting, sacred art, architectural enhancement, and digital design. These concepts give us an opportunity to explore possibilities and demonstrate how thoughtful craftsmanship can completely change the character and atmosphere of a sacred interior.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: No physical work is planned, proposed, or scheduled for this chapel. This rendering is purely a creative exercise for inspiration and exploration—a vision of what could be possible.

We’ll be sharing more concepts like this, each exploring new ways sacred and historic spaces can be visually elevated while respecting their purpose, architecture, and character.

Stay tuned for the next reimagining.

⛪ WEEK 1 UPDATE | ST. BRIDGET CATHOLIC CHURCH — SCAMMON, KANSAS

Week one is wrapping up at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Scammon, Kansas, and the groundwork is being laid for the transformation ahead!

The scaffolding has been delivered, and er****on and setup are nearly complete. Once the scaffolding is fully in place, we’ll begin the plaster preparation and restoration phase throughout the church.

This phase will involve carefully inspecting the existing plaster, removing loose and deteriorated material, opening and repairing cracks, securing unstable areas, and rebuilding damaged sections where necessary. The repaired plaster will then be properly finished and prepared to create a sound, uniform surface for the painting and decorative work that will follow.

This is an important part of the project. Before any new colors, stenciling, or decorative finishes can be applied, the underlying historic plaster needs to be stable, properly repaired, and prepared for a long-lasting finish.

We’re excited to have the project underway and look forward to sharing the progress week by week as St. Bridget’s transformation continues.
