💧 Could moisture be hiding underneath your floors?
Moisture can cause serious problems for flooring, including beautiful, durable solid hardwood. The floors pictured here were affected by a bathroom leak in the neighboring room. Although the leak itself was repaired, moisture had already traveled into the adjoining area and affected the wood, causing it to separate and buckle.
Moisture problems can come from several places, including:
💧 Plumbing or appliance leaks
🏠 Moisture underneath the home or subfloor
🌧️ Water intrusion from outside
🚿 Leaks from an adjoining room
💦 Standing water or repeated spills
And a quick note about “waterproof” flooring: waterproof does not mean your entire flooring system is protected from water TRAPPED underneath the planks. Many waterproof products, such as LVP, are designed to withstand spills and moisture on top of the flooring. Water that gets underneath the floor from a leak, subfloor, or other source can still cause problems over time due to a building up of gases.
If your floors suddenly begin buckling, cupping, lifting, or separating, moisture may be one of the first things worth investigating.
