Before I ever made a window treatment, I studied fashion design and worked in the garment industry, learning fabric from the inside out.

I never stopped thinking about fashion. I just applied it to windows instead. This house is what happens when that whole background finally gets to run wild.

No white walls. No repeats. No holding back. Every window treatment tells a different story.

This is maximalism, done with real craftsmanship and true artistry. Of everything I’ve ever designed, this project has my heart. It always will.

Thirty years in, and this is the project I didn't know I was waiting for. ✨ I call it the Hobbit House, and once you see the rest of it, you'll understand why.

After over a year of planning with the homeowner and interior designer Linda Rubino, this home is full of pattern and color, with not a single white wall in sight.

Some installs are straightforward. And then there are windows above a stairway.

This Jersey Shore home had a beautiful run of windows in exactly the trickiest possible location...above a staircase, with no easy footing and no margin for error. Custom valances over woven wood shades (automated, because how else?) were the right design answer. Getting them up there was a project all its own.

You love your sunroom, except between 2 and 5 pm in August, when the sun turns it into a greenhouse and sitting in there feels more like a punishment than a retreat.

Sound familiar?

Top-down, bottom-up shades are the solution most people don't know they need. Lower the top to let light filter in from above while keeping privacy at eye level. Raise the bottom to let the breeze in without the glare. These woven wood shades in a soft, airy colorway do all of that without sacrificing the light, airy feel that made you love the room in the first place. ☀️

He's been in this business his whole life...and I mean that literally.

Trent was tagging along to client meetings as a little one before he had any idea what a drapery panel was. Now he's the one managing the projects, coordinating the installs, and keeping everything running smoothly. I couldn't do it without him.

A guest room should feel like a retreat, not an afterthought.

Wondering what window treatments to use in a guest room? Light-filtering Roman shades are one of my favorite treatments for this space. Soft enough to diffuse morning light without blocking it entirely, tailored enough to make the room feel finished, and versatile enough to work with almost any design direction. Your guests may not be able to put their finger on why the room feels so good. That's exactly the point.

In this Princeton home, hiding the original molding wouldn't have been right, but the minimal depth made a full inside mount difficult. We designed a modified mount that allows the molding to frame the window treatment.
