ANNOUNCEMENT! I am hosting an indoor rummage sale at my office this Saturday, July 18. Doors will open at 9:00. I'll be there at least until noon. This is a one day sale filled with lots of small home decor items, household necessities from my airbnb kitchen, some furniture and area rugs. My daughter is joining me, and she has some clothes and smaller items. It will be a room full and the AC will be running so come visit and see if you can find something you just can't live without! Just a little glimpse of the beauty coming to the shop as soon as the renovations are complete. Paint prep starts tomorrow. I'm getting closer to the finish line and I'm very excited about how things are coming together. Make sure you are following along so you do not miss any updates on the time-line for reopening.

As a general rule I do not like to split pairs of things. But, today I broke my own rule because the young woman who asked for one of these chairs was so sweet and she's shopping for her very own salon and going to be launching out in business for herself and you all know that is one of my most favorite things to see. Our kids, growing up, doing their best, working hard to build something with their own hands. Send one of those in to see me and they pretty much get whatever they want. So...now I have a single chair that can tuck into any corner and be the perfect spot for a cup of coffee or even a pile of laundry. This is a great vintage French provincial piece, fabric is in perfect condition. A smaller frame so doesn't take up much space, but it doesn't feel cramped. Quite comfortable. The shop is undergoing renovations and everything is stacked and packed out of the way. There's beauty in the chaos, and I'm excited for the changes. It's taking longer than I'd hoped which is true of all design projects. I'm learning a lot by being my own client. Some of my systems as a designer needed fine tuning. Some of my systems as a person also need to be adjusted. One of my mantras is "you can learn from everyone". It's been interesting to dance on both sides of the line. One thing I'm taking from this experience is an even greater commitment to doing honest work. Not honest in the sense of "I don't tell lies", but in the sense of offering my very best throughout the whole process. Supporting a client during a project is so incredibly important. Interior design is different from interior decorating. With design we build a foundation, a fortress. Every decision layers the next decision. When done with clarity and confidence we can create a home that both comforts and energizes your family. I need to find a home for this file cabinet. The catch is it needs to be picked up as soon as possible, and you will need to bring help to load. It's heavy. Great condition, drawers all work as they should. Surface rust adds the perfect patina for an industrial piece.

We are starting a construction project at the shop that has the potential to become messy and drawn out. I would much rather see this beautiful dresser safely at home with one of you than wrapped in packing blankets for the next several weeks! A great size for a smaller room, drawers work well, finish is almost perfect. Just enough character to prove its age. Mirror is clear. Send a DM to claim for yourself and to arrange to pick up.

My Granny went to Heaven last week.
We tore this door slap off its hinges Sunday night because we all kept going in and out and the dogs were running through and no one really knew what to do with themselves and we couldn't sit still because Granny wasn't at the house with us. So Den got his drill that he never leaves home without and he fixed it. And he fixed the front door because somehow we broke the cylinder on that one and then he realized the laundry room door wouldn't latch so that got taken care of and why were we breaking all these doors??!! Why did it feel like everything was out of focus and maybe we might fall down a rabbit hole and swirl and swirl forever if we weren't really careful? Why did it rain on our Easter Egg Hunt and then why did my daddy's donkeys eat peppermints right out of my hand this time but his TippyToes dog wanted to bite me and then the truck he repossessed that we thought would break down in the driveway got us thirty miles back to the lot before it burned its oil up? Why did the snowball bush bloom the prettiest it ever has and why has the sun baked the livingroom lampshade so that it tore when they rearranged the furniture to make room for a hospital bed? Why could I almost see atoms but couldn't feel a thing?
My Granny went to Heaven last week.
She loved Jesus. She loved us. The preacher told us we would be fools to not make sure we know Jesus so we can go to Heaven to see her again. No way we can claim ignorance after a direct message such as that. Granny had a way of looking at you that let you know the vibes were off. Your vibes. Your responsibility to adjust them. I don't want her and Jesus both looking at me that way when I get to The Gate.

It's been a very long time since I posted something to this account other than random stories. But I ran across something last night I want to share. I needed some information from one of my friends, and the only way to get it was to scroll back through our messages. She went to Heaven almost two years ago, and I haven't opened that message thread since that day. I did ok until I read one that I will paraphrase here...
..maybe you will finally see what we have seen all along and extend compassion to yourself. this is your first time living life, too...

Friends, we have never lived this life before. We maybe think we have experience and even some wisdom and we know the next step. This can be true. It is also true life is very harsh if we do not offer grace to those around us. Don't forget to allow yourself that same love. Doesn't matter your age or experience. Doesn't matter what you think you should know by now or how strong you think you should be. Look yourself in the mirror and speak gently. Just like you would to your friend. Make sure you say "I'm proud of you." Because giving our best is all that is required. And even on those days we only have ten percent to offer...if we give it all we've still given one hundred percent.

The weather really isn't very friendly this weekend. It's snowing right now, and promising to be cold tomorrow. BUT, it will not be cold in the shop!! And the coffee bar is getting set up already this afternoon so it will for sure be ready for the first shoppers in the morning. Please, if you're not able to visit the shop tomorrow, don't hesitate to send a DM for details to shop online. I will be happy to assist. If you can make it in be sure to come prepared to support the resident barista so I can keep convincing him to come back for my open house days!
