SOLD

A diminutive mahogany desktop lockbox with brass escutcheon and ball feet, hand cut dovetail construction and removable interior lid. Dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. Wear is consistent with age. A stable crack in the lid is visible and was repaired. Evidence screws were driven through the top can be seen in the photos. The hinges are secured loosely by design to allow the top to close most likely due to age, warping or shrinkage.

SOLD

Utilitarian bentwood pantry box, likely mid-to-late 19th century. The construction style where the band overlaps and is nailed flat is often associated with factory-made or "trade" boxes from the 1850s–1880s. The way the nails are "peened" or bent over on the inside is a classic technique to ensure the band stays tight under the tension of the wood's curve. The vibrant red paint looks like an early 20th-century refresh over an older surface, given the way the wear pattern sits on the wood grain. The lid appears to be missing two small nails but the band is still tight and secure.
