🇮🇹 **There is a buzz around downtown Hartford!** 🇮🇹

What began as a simple invitation to stay open a little later has grown into **20 downtown businesses and organizations** joining together for Hartford’s first First Friday—**tomorrow evening from 5–8 PM!**

And everyone is making it their own. Here is just some of what we’ve heard so far:

🎶 **Flower Cafe** will have live acoustic music from **Amy G Sings**—and we’re making a trip to Milwaukee’s East Side for authentic cannoli from **Peter Sciortino Bakery**!

🍨 **Scoop De Ville** is rolling out Tiramisu Ice Cream.

🍺 **Brewed Omen** will have free brewery tours, $6 Amaretto Sours and $1 off its three new Italian-inspired menu items.

🪓 **Hartford Hatchet House** is holding an axe-throwing contest, with the night’s high score winning $50! Their contest continues until 9 PM.

🍷 **Oscar’s Wine Bar** will offer $5 Italian red and white wines, along with half-price charcuterie.

🛍️ **The Local Collective** will serve mini gluten-free biscotti and offer 10% off purchases of $50 or more.

📸 And photographer **Steve Sweeney Photography** will be strolling downtown, capturing the people, places and energy of the evening.

Those are only a few of the things happening! Come downtown, take a walk, step inside someplace you’ve been meaning to visit and see what everyone has planned.

CLOSED FRIDAY–MONDAY / BACK TUESDAY AT 7
A little scheduling note from our family: The Flower Café will be closed Friday through Monday this week. 🌲

This is our family cabin up north.

Last year, in all the craziness of getting the Flower Café ready to open, somehow not one of us made it here all summer.

We're determined not to let that happen again.

There is a small window right now when all six of us can actually be in the same place at the same time. So we're closing the shop for a few days, heading north and choosing a little time together while we can.

There will be hiking and probably too many games. Someone will undoubtedly start a project that was not on the agenda. We'll eat well, sleep in a little, and hopefully spend a fair amount of time doing absolutely nothing.

The Flower Café really is a family business. Most days you'll find Cole and Tru behind the flowers and coffee, but when one of them isn't there, you'll find Anna Mae, Grace, Tim or me stepping in. It's how we've chosen to build this little place, and most of the time we wouldn't have it any other way.

It also means that when we all want to go somewhere together, the café has to come along in its own way — by turning off the lights for a few days.

So this weekend, we're choosing the cabin. ❤️

And on Tuesday morning, we'll choose the café again. ☕🌸

We'll turn the lights back on, start the espresso machine, fill the cases and be very happy to see you.

CLOSED Friday–Monday
OPEN Tuesday at 7:00 AM

Come have coffee with us when we get back.

What are we doing Friday night?

We’d love for First Friday to become one very easy answer to that question.

This September, a few of us on Main Street are trying something new. We’ll stay open a little later, share a theme, and give you a reason to come downtown—have something to eat, wander into a shop, bring the kids, meet a friend, or discover someplace you’ve walked past but never quite noticed.

Hartford already knows how to do the big events. First Friday is something different. We’re hoping to create a habit—a regular evening when the lights are on, doors are open, and downtown feels a little more like our community’s living room.

We’re starting small. We’ll learn as we go. And we hope you’ll help us figure out what First Friday can become.

Our first one is September 4 | Italian Summer. 🇮🇹

Come downtown and give it a try.

It’s First Friday. Let’s go downtown.

We wrote a little more about why we’re doing it here: https://flowercafe.net/its-first-friday-lets-go-downtown/

What if the first Friday of every month became an easy answer to “What should we do tonight?” First Friday is a new downtown Hartford habit we’re hoping to build—open doors, later hours, good food, familiar favorites and perhaps a place you’ve never noticed before. Come downtown, wander a ...

There is so much happening around Hartford this week, and one event in particular feels especially meaningful.

The grand opening of Museum 53027 is finally here! This museum has been a true labor of love for so many people in our community. It's a wonderful tribute to Hartford's history, the people who built it, and the stories that continue to shape our future. If you have a chance, be sure to stop in—the grand opening celebration continues through Saturday.

There are plenty of other reasons to get out and explore downtown, too. 🎶 Enjoy live music, spend an evening creating at the Oscar's Wine Bar & Book Nook bookmark workshop, or cheer on everyone participating in the Hartford Area Chamber's annual golf outing on Tuesday. The Chamber has put a tremendous amount of work into another great event.

And tomorrow morning, you'll find us at the Cafe and at the Hartford Farmers Market! Stop by, say hello, and pick up a fresh bouquet or your favorite coffee before exploring everything else our community has to offer.

Hartford is full of wonderful people doing incredible things. We hope to see you around town this week! 🌿☕

100 days until Christmas! 🎄

Today, Barb at the chamber surprised Jerry Schnorenberg with an invitation to serve as this year's Christmas Parade Marshal.

His response couldn't have been more fitting.

Jerry accepted on behalf of the small business owners, volunteers, and neighbors who quietly give their time to make Hartford such a special place to call home.

This is why we love Hartford. It's people like Jerry—who consistently give back without asking for recognition—who make our community such a wonderful place to live, work, and share life together.

(And yes... he even started practicing his parade wave. 👋)

Congratulations, Jerry! We can't wait to cheer you on this Christmas.

One of our favorite things about Hartford is that there's always something worth showing up for.

Here's a look at what's happening around town this week. Whether you're catching a show, listening to live music, shopping the Farmers Market, or simply stopping by for coffee, we hope you'll find a reason to enjoy our wonderful community.

🌿 We'll be at the Hartford Farmers Market on Saturday with coffee and treats. We've got Wisconsin grown bouquets and our flower cooler is stocked all week long if you can't make the market.

Here's to another great week in our favorite hometown. 💚

Someone once said in the café,

'It's just flowers in a vase...how hard can it be?'

We smiled.

What most people never see is the hundreds of tiny decisions hidden inside an arrangement. This bouquet asked even more of us than usual. The flowers we planned around didn't arrive exactly as expected, so the design evolved as we worked.

Some arrangements leave the shop.

Others become milestones.

This one will stay in Cole's portfolio for a long time.

Things We Noticed This Week

This week it was Queen Anne's Lace.

In the garden, I pull it.

In the flower shop, we often tuck it into wedding bouquets because it adds such a soft, delicate texture.

Along the Mill Pond, it simply belongs.

Funny how the same flower can be a w**d, a wildflower, or part of someone's wedding day.

Sometimes what changes isn't the flower.

It's where we find it.

Have you noticed it blooming around Hartford this week?
