Cynthia (Cindy) Rae Island passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023. Cindy was born June 13, 1947, in Pekin, IL to Raymon and Gloria (Eigenbrod) Mangold. She worked as a waitress for most of her life and retired from Mama Lou’s restaurant in Oklahoma City, OK before moving back home to IL in 2017. She was a great cook and baker and sold her breads, pies, and candies at Havana’s Street Market through her home-based business, “No Place Like Home”.
Cindy had a great zest for life and enjoyed a good joke, even if it was at her own expense. Always competitive, she was known to use her own made-up curse words during many Skip-Bo and Uno games. Always quick with a smile and friendly to a fault, she had a personality that made family and friends better after having known her. Cindy loved unconditionally and will be forever remembered for her fun-loving and playful personality. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and no holiday will be the same without her fully decked-out tables with enough food to feed an army and a seemingly never-ending supply of deviled eggs. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and crafting.
Cindy was truly one of a kind with kindness, compassion, and empathy beyond compare. If she knew you, she cared about you, even if she didn’t like you. Luckily, she liked almost everyone!
Cindy is survived by her son, Bobby (Cindi) Peace, brother Steve Mangold (Judy Kelly), granddaughters Kelsey Peace, Mollie Peace, and Emily Peace, grandson Wesley Peace, great granddaughter, Star Peace, as well as many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Pam Huffines, and son Lonnie Peace.
A graveside service will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana at 11am on Thursday, January 4 with a celebration of life at Cindy’s home in rural Havana immediately following. Signs will be posted with directions.
