These custom stairs really brought this project together! We installed the hardwood and matching stair nosings to create a clean, finished transition between the different floor levels throughout this St. Louis home.

Along with the stairs, our team installed 1,776 square feet of Mullican Chatelaine Hickory Saddle, a prefinished hardwood with beautiful natural character.

The stairs were an important part of this installation, helping the different levels flow together while maintaining a consistent look throughout the home.

These hickory floors turned out beautifully in Edwardsville, Illinois! 🏡

Our team installed 1,800 square feet of 3 inch unfinished hickory throughout the home, then sanded and stained the floors with DuraSeal English Chestnut stain before applying a water-based finish.

Hickory's natural grain patterns and color variations give these floors plenty of character, and the entire project was completed in 10 business days!

FAQ Friday! 😄

Can I stay in my house while my hardwood floors are being refinished?

The short answer is yes, in many cases you can!

We know having your floors refinished can be a little disruptive to your everyday routine, but that doesn't always mean you have to pack up and leave!

It really depends on which areas of your home we're working on, whether you can still access bedrooms and bathrooms, and what type of finish is being used.

💧 Water-based finishes have less odor, lower VOC levels, and dry much faster than traditional oil-based finishes. You can typically walk across the floors in socks about 3 hours after a coat is applied, although we recommend keeping foot traffic to a minimum.

🏡 Oil-based finishes have a much stronger odor and take longer to dry. In these cases, we generally recommend staying out of the home while each coat dries.

Every home and project is different! We'll always walk you through what to expect so you can plan ahead and know what works best for your situation.

Those old metal floor vents commonly found in older homes don't have to stay!

One of our installation leads, Chandler recently replaced this outdated metal vent with a custom wood flush mount return air vent that blends right into the hardwood flooring. It's a small detail that makes a big difference in the overall look of a room!

A great way to give your floors a cleaner, more finished appearance without those bulky metal vents standing out.

Meet the Team Tuesday! 💙👶

This week's introduction is a little extra special!

Everyone, meet our newest (and tiniest!) Luminous Flooring team member, Jackson Chandler Lewis! 🍼

Jackson officially joined the crew at 1:06 AM, September 5th, weighing 8 lbs, 3 oz! He may be a little too young to start installing hardwood floors, but he's already got a special place on our team!

As a family-owned business, we're so excited to welcome the newest addition to the Luminous Flooring family. 💙

From carpet to beautiful hardwood floors!

For this project, we removed the existing carpet and installed unfinished 2 1/4" red oak. The floors were then sanded and finished using a mix of DuraSeal Early American, Cherry, and Golden Oak stains.

The finished floors bring so much warmth and character to the space, and the before and after pictures really show the difference!

Four days, start to finish! 👏

For this project in St. Charles, we installed new hardwood and refinished the existing floors, finishing everything with a water-based finish and no stain.

The real highlight is the custom fireplace design created by our project manager, Matt Rott! Using a combination of Walnut, Red Oak, and Clear Maple, he designed a one-of-a-kind pattern that really makes this space stand out.

All of this completed in just four days!

Something a little different with this herringbone flooring!

For this project in Webster Groves, we installed 2 1/4" red oak hardwood, including a beautiful herringbone pattern that adds so much character to the space. The floors were then sanded and finished with Medium Brown stain and a water-based finish.

A little repair work can make a big difference!

For this project in Columbia, Illinois, we laced in new 2"x1/2" red oak to match the existing hardwood, then sanded and finished the floors with a dark stain and oil-based finish. Love how everything came together!

Here's a recent hardwood floor refinishing project we completed in Godfrey, Illinois!

We sanded and refinished 725 sq. ft. of 2¼" Red Oak hardwood flooring using Bona Antique Brown stain, giving these floors a fresh look!
