Today's episode of Homeownership Surprises, we have a brick wall where I intended to have a door to another room!
This is my home, and my husband/Dreamweaver. He's such a good sport and more easygoing than I deserve.
My plan was to move these built in bookcases to my new cottage/ greenhouse and elevate the ceiling in this space, to accommodate my antique merchantile cabinet that is 2 inches too tall for anywhere in my home (so it sadly sits in storage). Then I planned to open the wall to create a way to get to the storage room on the otherside to create a half bath near our library (which is an entire room of built in bookcases, hence the reason I'm not stressing about these two being utilized elsewhere). I have also picked out brick tile for the flooring because I felt like the space needed a little brick!
We hit a brick wall, literally!
So, the flooring will be the (real) oak flooring we had installed throughout the home. No ½ bath. Just a dramatic brick wall which is more than I could have dreamed of when I woke up today!

Friday was a full circle moment for me! I met with Mrs. M, my client two years ago in Virginia Beach! She called me for an appointment to return to her home, that I worked on her building design, and not only got to see it fully furnished but Friday we chose interior paint colors!
Here are the subtle whites we chose, to keep the interiors bright and the attention in the beautiful water views behind her home. SW 6477 Tidewater is for one of her guest rooms (in the front of the house with no water view).

Here she sits, amidst the CVS, Food Lion, Dairy Queen...
She was once dreamed of, planned for, built and joyfully anticipated. Someone got the keys and maybe carried his bride over the threshold. Children learned to walk and talk here. Grandparents, cousins and neighbors celebrated holidays and history within it's beautiful walls. Now, she sits, forgotten. Why? Does anyone know her story? 506 S. Road St. Elizabeth City, NC

This one! This one right here, y'all! This house was super fun to design and the location is absolutely gorgeous! The tile is art! Every inch has been planned and designed for luxury living. I wish I could share more pictures but Insta only gives me room for 10! Photo credit goes to the REIN listing, which brings me to another point, you could make this gorgeous home your own!

Mr. and Mrs. M's house turned out beautifully! I'm working on getting before and afters of this one. It was technically considered an "addition" even though everything from the foundation up is new construction. It was the only way the house could be built because the foundation sits in the Resource Protection Area (a protected area along water). It was such an interesting and fun project! I know the goal is to have your babies grow up and have a life of their own, but it was especially hard to let this "baby" leave my nest!

We're making great progress on Mr. and Mrs. B's house on the river! It's going to be amazing! I can't wait to share the progress in the coming months!
