Brian Trekell was backpacking through Japan when he was first inspired by the art of brushmaking. That spark led to an interest that blossomed into a passion. Soon after, he traveled to Bechhofen, Germany to fine-tune his skills. After mastering the discipline, he returned to America and began his business, one with a commitment to excellence that deserved to be given his name. Things started smal

l: Brian used his Brea, California apartment as the first base of operations. He worked hard, never forgetting his original inspiration and to always put quality first. The company grew steadily and he moved to California's spacious High Desert to accommodate it. Three decades later, Trekell is an established name in art, known for exacting standards, earned experience, and the virtuosic skill behind the design of every product. Trekell has grown from one man's calling into a leading manufacturer of the highest quality supplies. Created with care and compassionately priced, Trekell's wide selection of tools are made by artists for artists. So, when you explore Trekell's catalog, know that you'll be dealing with people who are as passionate about their craft as you are about yours.

The eyes?

The fur?

The expression?

The personality?

Trekell Pro Team artist David Rice shows how much range you can get out of just two brushes during an acrylic sketch. Using a #16 Golden Taklon Bright and a #0 Golden Taklon Script/Rigger, he moves from broad shapes to small details without overcomplicating the process.

Sometimes it’s a good reminder that you don’t need a huge pile of tools to create something strong.

Do you tend to keep your brush selection simple, or do you like having lots of options in the studio?

Not all synthetic brushes are built the same. In this video, I break down the difference between lower cost synthetic filaments that use one blunt cut diameter versus the mixed filament diameters and tapered tips we use to help our brushes behave more like natural hair.

If you’ve ever had questions about synthetic brushes, drop them in the comments. I’m happy to make more videos like this.

Soap and water are a good start, but they don’t always reach the paint that’s hiding up in the ferrule. Over time, that buildup is what makes your Trekell brushes flare out and lose their shape, even when you think they’re clean.

In this video, I’m showing you a quick extra step you can add to your cleaning routine to work that paint out of the ferrule and help your Trekell brushes last longer.

If you have any brush care questions, drop them in the comments and we’ll help you out.

Trekell Pro Team Artist, , is working on one of our limited edition panel shapes here instead of a standard rectangle.

Sometimes just changing the panel shape is enough to make a painting feel completely different.

Chips, knots, weird edges… but still totally paintable.

Our Imperfect Panels are getting a second chance in the studio instead of the trash.

Comment DEAL and we’ll send you what’s in stock.

Sometimes simmering and warm water just are not enough to fix a brush.

Even after reshaping, you can still be left with that one stubborn stray hair that keeps scratching through your paint. And because you should not put natural hair brushes in simmering water at all, heat is not always an option.

In those cases, I carefully trim the stray at the ferrule with a box cutter instead of scissors, so the hair is removed right at the base instead of leaving a little nub that still drags through your strokes.

Trekell Pro Team Artist uses our Legion Long Grainer brushes to add texture and subtle effects in her oil paintings. In this video, she shows how the longer bristles and softer touch help her create controlled, organic marks that are hard to get with standard brushes.

If you want more info on how she uses them or which sizes she recommends, comment GRAINER and we’ll send you the details.
