Woof. What a week.

We are tired, we are thankful to be safe and warm, and we are hurting for Texas right now. How are y’all? This is a heavy time. So many have lost so much, we are just beginning to process the scope of it. Sh*tstorm on top of pandemic, and the weight of it all is a lot, physically and emotionally. I know the sun is finally shining, but keep checking on your friends, your family. Love on each other as 👏🏼much👏🏼as👏🏼you👏🏼can👏🏼

If you’re able and looking for ways to help, check the link in our profile for a resource doc from
It’s split into “I NEED HELP” and “I CAN HELP” categories and is extremely helpful.

We are giving as much as we can to and
There’s a great list on the above doc of additional orgs and volunteer opportunities.

Also, we are finally shipping orders again. Thank you for your patience 💗

Healing and rebuilding take time. For now let’s just try to celebrate the snow melting, and the beginning of picking up the pieces. Sending love and hope 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️👶🏻🐕

✌🏼💙 T e x a s

I love this photo. It reminds me of a time I like to call “Peak Dallas.” Alex and I were newly married, Gaston Made was growing, we were supported by an incredible, creative community, and it seemed like anything was possible. We worked hard because we wanted to, and still pretty much got a lot of sleep (a thing I have a very immediate sense of appreciation for now.) We had the safety net of my full time, corporate job, and lived in a cute rental house in the city. We had (just enough) responsibilities. There was a freedom in this time. We went to concerts and art galleries, got involved in our church, met up with friends on a whim, ate amazing food, and traveled on the weekends. It was a pre-pandemic (and pre-baby) life. Of course during these times, it’s only natural to dream of and plan for the future. We knew we wanted a family, a home, all of those things, and we were ready. It was the calm before the next big change, and I remember feeling oh so present in that space. The feeling of “this is a special time, and it is not forever.”

Cut to now. In the span of roughly two years we’ve bought a house, experienced a major theft, had a baby, adjusted to the reality that is full time working + parenting, and shifted our entire lives to be safe through a pandemic 🤯 I was laid off from my job of 9 years (goodbye safety net) and we watched as the world around us seemed to continually catch fire, literally and figuratively. We’ve had to take multiple steps back/forward as we figured out how Gaston Made would exist in this life tornado. And even still, where Dallas fits in our future.

We ultimately came to the decision to move home, to Kansas. A place where both of our families are firmly planted. A place that has always been our foundation as a couple. A place where we can rebuild, and have the time & space to actually grow our family and business into everything we hope it will be.

Dallas has given us SO much. Ten years of friendship and discovery and life and growth. We started something here, with the help of incredible friends like and who brought the vision of Gaston Made to life in photo form..*ctd in comments 😆*

Fresh start feels. Happy 2021 friends 🎉

Shout-out to all the new coaster owners out there 🎁 Each one is triple sealed to repel moisture. Wipe clean and you're done!

Coaster views 👀

We really do cut, glue, paint, sand, finish, stamp, package, and ship each and every one of these with our own hands. We are small, and the pandemic has made us feel that on a whole new level. When you order a set of our coasters, you're supporting true craftsmanship, and yes, we do a happy dance 🤪

Thank you for sharing us. Thank you for supporting us. Thank you for loving these coasters with as much heart as we put into making them. Thank you for supporting our friends who are in this too, artists and makers just trying to keep going right now. Thank you.

Keep on shopping small this season, and all year. Our shop's on sale through Tuesday 💚

I’ve tried to convince myself I’m one of those neutral palette people (bc their homes and outfits and kids always look so beautiful and put together right??) But I love color. Give me all the color. Give me all the patterns. Having a toddler has reinforced this tendency to a degree I did not know was possible 😂 So I’m going to stop fighting it. Here’s hoping it’s a way of balancing out this gloomy week with a bit of joy.

Speaking of joy, have you voted yet? The experience brought me a measure of peace I haven’t felt in awhile. Keep an eye on our shop this week for a special surprise re: your post-vote selfie 😉

Squiggly brain thoughts. Mixed emotions. Grabbing onto good stuff like beautiful colors and thankfulness and art. It’s okay to be okay, and also okay to not be okay. It’s okay that you’ve barely posted on Gaston Made’s Instagram lately. It’s okay that all you did today was keep a baby alive/healthy (I tell myself.) It’s okay to not know what you need right now. It’s okay to feel a lot of different things. Meet yourself where you’re at.
-
And then, If you’re able, do something kind for someone. Support a local business (tagged a few 💁🏻‍♀️) Put some goodness out there, it is needed.

Hope everyone’s hanging in there 😅✌🏼✌🏾✌🏿✌🏻✌️🌈💙

We made something✨

Limited edition soap dish. Solid teak. All profits will be paid forward to a purchase from a local small business. Link in profile

Without repeating what everyone’s already been saying. We’re here to acknowledge that yes, times are really crazy right now. And anything we say about these times will be flawed and imperfect. We’re in it too. We’re anxious, we’re emotional, we’re worried, we’re doing our best, one day at a time. We are fortunate to have each other, to have our health, to have a stocked pantry, to have internet and toilet paper. Others are not. We’re conflicted and facing feelings of powerlessness on a daily basis.

In truth Gaston Made has been running at about half-capacity since Elena was born. For us, full time parenthood leaves little time for coasters and furniture dreams. It’s been a life shift.

The current situation has been a sideways jolt against what we were calling normal though. It’s making us think - maybe that normal wasn’t really what we wanted. Maybe it wasn’t serving us at all. Maybe this is an opportunity to figure it out? Maybe not?

Mostly we’re trying to keep the pressure off. Ask questions...but let them hang out. After all, there’s time. No more busy, no more excuses, no more filling our days with distractions and schedules.

For now we will laugh with our baby, snuggle our pup, and love on each other. We will throw as much support as we possibly can at our small local businesses, because that is our heart and soul

We will remember that this is temporary. There is light in this darkness. We will find a way through. Repeat repeat repeat 🙏
