At first glance, you might think this is simply a beautiful black-and-white photograph.
But look a little closer...
It's actually infrared photography.
Infrared photography captures light that our eyes can't normally see, which is why familiar landscapes can suddenly take on an almost otherworldly appearance. Green foliage can become incredibly light and bright, while water and other elements can take on much darker tones.
In this image, a peaceful lake surrounded by woods becomes something completely different. There's an almost dreamy, surreal quality to it that immediately caught our attention when it came into the shop.
And that's one of the things we love about framing photography.
Two photographers can stand in the exact same location, point their cameras at the exact same scene, and create completely different pieces of art based on how they choose to capture it.
Of course, our job is to make sure the framing complements that vision rather than distracting from it.
We see a LOT of different artwork come through our doors, but every once in a while, something makes us stop and take an extra look.
This was definitely one of those pieces.
Did you know this was an infrared photograph before we told you?
