So, look for me in the real world.

I’ll be helping to decorate one of the houses on the 2026 Hillsboro Homes Tour (come see it!)

I’ll be crop planning and soil building all winter. Seed starting will begin in January for your spring and summer flowers!

2026 was our biggest year so far (by far!) and 2027 will be even better. Look for more flowers at Olive in spring 2027, more weddings at the Old Stone School, and a greater local presence at markets and events.

As for yourself, pay attention to what’s happening around you. Dissent. Resist. Support your neighbors.

Take the moment. Read the news article for yourself. Watch the press release. Smell the flowers.

See you in the real world.

It’s here! Our fall bub and corm sale at Olive at the Old Stone School.

We have over a dozen varieties of tulip this year - not all of them are in yet, so come get some of these and then come back next week to see new ones!

Each variety is individually packed and ready for you to store in a cool, dry place until you plant the tulips in November. There’s a discount for buying 4 tulips packs at once, so try mixing the elegant Salmon Van Eijk with the showy Amazing Parrot, or the deep purple Black Hero with the rich deep pink Columbus.

The two varieties of ranunculus corms also go well together as shades and tones of pink for a monochromatic palette. The corms themselves are petite and knobbly, but don’t let that scare you - these are some of the most beautiful spring flowers you’ll ever see.

Come see for yourself - 37098 Charles Town Pike Hillsboro Virginia.

Take the moment. Plant the bulbs. Spring you will be so happy you did!

It’s the beginning of wedding prep week!! We’re honored to serve up flowers for Morgan and Logan’s wedding this weekend for our largest wedding yet - a Grand Finale of 2026 🥹

We’re also grateful to those that came before us to open the door for sustainable floristry - the 100% silk and hand-dyed ribbon from Silk & Willow, the foam-free and foraged arch mechanics modeled after The Ivy Institute’s floral pillar, help from friends like Landry Farm and other local growers helping us meet the dahlia demand, especially Allison & Jonathan | West Virginia Flower Farm.

Can’t wait to show you how this all turns out!

“It depends” can be such a cop out answer to the question “How long do dahlias last in the vase?”

Here’s the short answer:

⏰ 5-9 days for ball-shaped round dahlias that are 1-3 inches across

⏰ 3-5 days for the ruffley, fluffy, magical, twisty petaled large ones that are 5-8” across.

Yes, they have different life expectancies in your case.

And YES, the big ruffley ones are SO WORTH IT. Literally every time I see one in the kitchen, my breath catches, and I stop to admire it. That kind of dopamine release from Mother Nature is what you want 😍

Stop at Olive, the self serve flower stand at the Old Stone School in Hillsboro, Virginia to get your very own all-natural dopamine hit.

More to come on to keep them alive the longest.

Who would we be without the animals in our lives?

Cardiac, named for the heart-shaped black spot on his butt, helped greet people of all ages at the summer concerts this year at the Old Stone School. I’ve learned a thing or two from him about customer service!

New set up, new flowers!

The wind from this Nor’easter finally took out our wooden stand for good. Even bent some of the metal buckets when it got smooshed.

So, for the next (last!) few weeks of the year, we’ll be using a good ol’ card table to hold our buckets.

Please stop buy to support this little flower company and our local artists. Cassie Rowlands of Hillsboro Pottery has taken some fabulous photos of our flower fields and you won’t regret flipping through them to see what moves you.

I wasn’t expecting you to be able to hear my squealing singing, but here it is. I also wasn’t expecting the dog to be so nonchalant, as though this craziness is not unexpected. Thanks for the humility, Dio.

It’s September and the bugs and the powdery mildew and the weakening stems are so real.

There’s only 3-4 weeks left in this northern Virginia growing season, so dance in the rain while you can! And support your local farmers in this final push of the year.

Buy local produce, buy local meat, buy local flowers at farmers markets and flower stands. They won’t be around forever!

Olive, our self serve flower stand at the Old Stone School in western Loudoun, is open Friday through Sundays, 10am to duskish.
