Floor plans tell you where things go.Sections and elevations tell you how they actually get built.

This is where interior design and architecture truly intersect.

Tile layouts, wall thicknesses, niche placement, plumbing heights, millwork proportions, material transitions, lighting alignment, ceiling details…every decision has to be coordinated long before installation begins.

A beautiful design means nothing if it can’t be communicated clearly to the builder and trades. The more detailed the drawing set, the smoother the construction process, the cleaner the ex*****on, and ultimately, the stronger the final result.

If you want to design seriously, you have to understand how things are built. You have to study the details, the layers, the transitions and the sequencing behind the finished space.

I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors and builders willing to share their knowledge along the way. So much of this is learned on job sites, through collaboration, asking questions and staying curious.

Without construction knowledge, you’re not designing, you’re decorating.

Good design is not just aesthetics.It’s precision, coordination and thoughtful documentation.

The most successful projects don’t start with finishes, they start with intention.

Bringing an interior designer in at the concept phase changes everything. Every decision that follows — from window placement and ceiling treatments to millwork proportions and material transitions — is shaped early, not forced later.

This is where the foundation is set:
• Aligning vision across client, architect, and builder
• Establishing scale, proportion, and spatial flow
• Designing with the architecture, not just within it

When collaboration happens from the beginning, the result feels cohesive, effortless, and resolved, not pieced together.

Good design isn’t just what you see at the end.
It’s what was considered from the start.

What gives a room its soul?

Good design isn’t loud.
It’s balanced.

Warm wood grounding the island.
Soft curves easing the architecture.
Stone and brass adding quiet contrast.

The Kenzie Counter Stool in Napa Cognac by .martin brings warmth and comfort through its sculptural curve and rich leather tone, anchoring the kitchen while softening the harder architectural lines.

And the tile? It’s the unsung hero.

The large-format flooring introduces rhythm and movement without demanding attention. Its subtle variation creates depth, grounds the space visually and allows the island and cabinetry to shine. Instead of competing with the finishes above, the tile supports them. A reminder that restraint is often the most powerful design choice.

I’m in love with this kitchen because it proves that timeless design doesn’t rely on trends it relies on balance, materiality and intention. Pure inspiration.
