Antique 1880s A&W drink shaker.

Up next I'm starting work on. An extremely rare (haven't ever seen another example) late 1800s A&W hand crank belt driven drink shaker.

When I saw A&W your head might go to the root beer. This dates prior to that brand which started in 1919 in CA, while this is from and A&W in Chicago.

It's more likely from Adams & Westlake 1855 which is now Adlake and exists today. Ive reached out to them as well as the "made in chicago" museum.

This isn't usable in current condition. Top stem is stripped and will need remade. No clamp to hold down the glasses. No hand k**b. The tin cup holders are damaged and cracked which will require new metal spun parts.

Looking closely at the machine you can see some of the original art and markings. Ive captured extensive imagery to have that artwork recreated, should I find a skilled artist.

The machine disassembled fairly easily and will be starting the restoration pocess. I will be likely putting considerable money and time in this one due to its rarity. Stay tuned.

An excellent client sent me another Coles Shaker (1909) to renew for his client. Disassembly was comparatively easy to prior machines, and was welcomed. I continue to to appreciate the opportunity to see these and even restore them. They're rare but some continue to pop up, albeit at a significant price. More to come. Coles Drink Shaker Mixer
