Pacific Northwest interior design is mostly about one thing: what you do with the light you've got.

This narrow window could have been the awkward wall. Instead we built walnut cabinetry tight on either side and let the window become the moment. Storage and a frame for the view, in the same move.

Every house hands you a constraint. The good rooms are the ones that use it instead of hiding it.

Save this for the wall you've been calling awkward.

A Hood River great room, and the one decision that made it.

The ceiling is the architecture here. Vaulted, exposed beams, steel tie rods. Everything we chose had to honor that instead of fighting it...

So the pendants are oversized woven domes. Anything smaller would have floated up there like an apology. The stone fireplace runs all the way up for the same reason. Scale is a decision, not an accident.
