A powder bath is one of the few spaces in a home where you can push the design a little further.

Here, silky plaster walls set a quiet backdrop for dramatically veined Monet marble, a sculptural vanity profile, and lighting that reads almost like jewelry. The result is rich, polished, and just unexpected enough to make a lasting impression.

A well-proportioned home is something you often feel before you can explain why.

For Mark, getting that feeling right begins long before finishes or furnishings enter the conversation. It comes from understanding how a client lives, entertains, and moves through the home, then allowing those priorities to shape the architecture from the start.

This week’s Studio Chat explores why proportion is about much more than dimensions alone.

What makes a home feel “right” to you?

There’s a big difference between adding a golf simulator to a home and designing a true golf experience into it.

For Mark, that means understanding the technology well enough to know what is possible before the room ever takes shape. The Full Swing Virtual Green is a great example of how recreation, performance, and custom home design can come together in one highly specialized space.

Thank you to Craig Nome of Full Swing for sharing a closer look at what this system can do.

The most successful custom homes don’t just add amenities. They create experiences.

As homeowners continue looking for new ways to bring recreation and entertainment home, dedicated spaces like this are becoming part of the conversation from the earliest stages of design.

Thank you to Craig Nome of Full Swing for sharing more about what is possible when technology, recreation, and residential design come together.

More to come later this week.

Some of the most beautiful spaces aren’t defined by a single standout feature. They’re the result of many intentional decisions working together.

In this week’s Studio Chat, Olivia shares why the rooms that feel the most inviting rarely rely on one finish, one color, or one material. Instead, it’s the relationship between those elements that creates depth, warmth, and a space that feels complete.

What’s the first thing you notice when you walk into a room?

This River Oaks property was originally intended to become the next ASID Show House through a renovation. But after Sugar Creek Homes assessed the home, it became clear that years of previous work and significant structural damage made a remodel impractical.

The homeowners had owned the house for several years and loved its original Tudor character, so starting over didn’t mean abandoning what made the home special. Instead, it became an opportunity to recreate that same timeless style in a new home built for the future.

Today, only a portion of the original fireplace and the foundation remain. Soon, the site will be cleared, and construction will begin on a home that honors the original while giving the homeowners everything they hoped for.

Take a look at the existing house alongside what we’re planning to build. Do you think we captured the spirit of the original?

One of the advantages of designing a home with two staircases is that each can serve a different purpose.

Rather than handling the day-to-day traffic, this staircase was designed to be experienced. Positioned within a two-story glass corner, it welcomes guests with natural light, expansive views, and an architectural moment that sets the tone for the rest of the home.

When people think about what makes a home feel luxurious, square footage is usually the first thing that comes to mind.
Architects tend to think differently.

In this week’s Studio Chat, Mark shares one of the most overlooked design decisions that shapes how a home is experienced every single day. It’s a conversation about proportion, circulation, and why the way you move through a home can matter just as much as its size.

Watch the full conversation, then tell us: had you ever thought about it this way?
