another set of peculiar portraits: an exercise in discomfort π // i think that much of my struggle when it comes to portraiture is being able to capture another personβs character without imposing any of my subjective biases or whimsy imaginings. though many might argue that drawing portraits in my own style and through my own interpratations is alright, i still am learning to do so WHILE capturing the character of the person.
when i draw faces, i usually do so in ballpoint. drawing portraits in ballpoint pen makes me feel like the stakes are a lot lower and signals to my brain that making mistakes are very much welcome. nonetheless i *may* have masochistic tendencies when it comes to art (π), so i push myself to experiment with other mediums when it comes to portraiture.
hereβs another set of peculiar portraits, this time around in ink and brush. i actually enjoyed the feel and the movement of the brush pen, but it really is challenging me to draw more fluidly without relying on preliminary sketches. each of these faces are drawn whilst people-watching on my lunch break (but very few are from my imagination β can you guess which?). each took no more than a minute to complete.
looking forward to playing around more with the brush pen!! found out too that i particularly love interesting noses and bodies hahhahhhahaha
