It’s that time of year where the back to school season heading into winter brings tons of new germs into our homes. That means … time for elderberry syrup again!

Why elderberry syrup? Studies have shown that elderberries are packed full of antioxidants, flavonoids, high levels of vitamin C as well as many other benefits including anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities. When making the elderberry syrup I always use local pure raw honey for an extra boost of immune support. And since local is always best, the honey used will be from our own hives here in Millwood ☺️

In addition to the syrup I am also offering gummies for kiddos (over the age of 2) and adults using the syrup + grass fed beef gelatin. The syrup lasts for 2 months in the fridge or can be frozen in ice cube trays to use as needed. The gummies are best within 2-3 weeks when stored in an airtight container in the fridge or they can also be frozen for a longer shelf life.

Hello all 👋🏼

I wanted to take a quick second to apologize for the silence this season, and to give an update on the business!

As some of you may have noticed - I’ve been a bit quiet this growing season. The reason for this is that I made the tough decision to take this season off from growing and selling flowers due to some big (exciting!) changes happening over here in Millwood.

We have some major construction/property updates happening this summer leading into fall which includes building a fresh new flower workshop space for the future seasons! (My kitchen is already rejoicing to no longer have flowers strewn through it all summer 😜) The other exciting change is that I have also accepted a full time position working in my *other* dream job as a nurse in our local birthing center.

It is so important to me to always make sure that I am giving the best that I’ve got to my customers, my patients, and my family. In order to do that - I needed to fully focus my attention on settling into this new career and moving our home projects along to be able to give the flower side of the business the attention it requires in order to give you all the quality and service you expect in future seasons 🌸

With all of that being said… I am still planning and preparing to grow the herbal side of the business this fall and winter. Spring and summer have been filled with growing and/or foraging a wide variety of medicinal plants and herbs to continue creating tinctures, salves, and a variety of other natural products for you. Plus, the bees have been busy working hard to provide lots of honey and beeswax too! So stay tuned for more information on those items in the months to come!

I have received so many messages and comments regarding Petals on the Porch, wedding orders, or other specialty/event orders and it fills my heart with joy knowing that my flowers and my love for them means so much to you.

I look forward to filling your tables with flowers again soon. Thank you all SO much for the love, support, and understanding through this season of life! 🤍

I want to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who was able to purchase flowers today to help Cooper raise money to buy items for the St. Vincent de Paul School food drive benefiting Interchurch of Knox County. Because of your generosity, he had $150 to spend!

With that money he was able to purchase:

• 15 tuna pouches
• 14 cans of tuna
• 12 packages of pasta
• 6 jars of peanut butter
• 6 boxes of cereal
• 4 multi-packs of razors
• 8 full size deodorants
• 12 toothbrushes
• 8 full size body washes

Most importantly, he learned a valuable lesson in what it means to give and to serve others. He hand delivered bouquets that were full for flowers that he had helped to plant and care for and said thank you directly to each person he could. He spent time choosing exactly which items he wanted from the options given to him while we shopped, and meticulously counted each one to get to the number of each product needed.

On the way home he told me “I must have a very happy heart, because I am thankful and a thankful heart is a happy heart!” ❤️ Amen, Coop!

** Two wrapped bouquets and four sunflower bunches left **

My son’s school is hosting a food drive to collect donations for the Interchurch Social Services of Knox County food pantry.

To raise money to go buy the items needed for the pantries, he will be selling and hand delivering sunflower bunches and wrapped bouquets after school today! If it is more convenient for you to pick up on the porch this evening, that is okay too.

$10 from each sunflower bunch ($15) and $15 from each wrapped bouquet ($20) will be used by him to go shopping for the food drive donations that we will take to the school tomorrow. Delivery within 5 miles of Mount Vernon or Millwood, or porch pick up. Today only (09/24).

Message me directly or comment to reserve! Comment if you’d prefer a wrapped bouquet (Coop’s choice) or sunflower bunch. Limited number are available - once each type is sold out I will update this post. Thanks all! 🌻☺️

You are all amazing! By the time we got home from church, all of the wrapped mixed bouquets were sold 🥹🩷 THANK YOU!

BUT, don’t fret - I went straight to the flower field and cut more dahlias, zinnia, etc. and got to work making more to replace them. There are still plenty of gorgeous sunflower bunches left and eucalyptus bunches as well! And don’t forget, these are Pro Cut hybrids meaning they won’t dump pollen all over your table 🐝

I also put out jars of honey from our hives as well as some of our herbal products for you to check out well!

Eucalyptus bundles will also be available. These are perfect for hanging in your shower for a spa like effect, drying to use as decor through every season, or simplify adding to a vase.

🌻 POLL IN THE COMMENTS 🌻

Cut tons of gorgeous pro cut sunflowers in the best fall colors and lots of other beauties. They are all wrapped up and ready to go! Mixed bouquets, miss-matched sunflower bunches, and one variety sunflower bunches!

Now the question is: what is the best way to get them to all of you? Please select which option you would prefer! If I do Petals on the Porch, I would likely do jar bouquet options too with the shorter stems I have available.

Harvested a handful of calendula to dry and put up into the apothecary cabinet. That way, I will be able to use these beautiful petals while producing herbal products (like salves for example) this fall when the fresh flowers aren’t available.

Fun fact: about 85-90% (give or take by product) of all medicinal herbs I use in my herbal products are either grown or foraged by me. Talk about sourced locally 😉

The main attraction this week are these incredible Pro Cut sunflowers.

What is a “Pro Cut” sunflower you may be wondering? The Pro Cut varieties of sunflower are a special hybrid bred as a pollen-less sunflower option making it ideal for cut flower arrangements in your home. Because of the way they are hybridized, they won’t be dropping pollen all over your table like the sunflowers you may be used to cutting from your own gardens. In simpler terms? These ain’t ya grandmas sunflowers 😜

I will have mixed bouquets as well as SUNFLOWER BUNCHES 🌻 for all of you fall girlies I know will be decorating for fall ceremoniously on September 1st 😉
