Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones reimagined for modern interiors; Pre-Raphaelite romance, rebuilt for contemporary spaces that refuse to look ordinary.

These works carry myth, emotion, and a quiet kind of authority that does not beg for attention but commands it anyway.

Fun Fact Friday | Van Gogh, Wheat Fields, and What Happened After He Died

When Vincent van Gogh died in 1890, he was not famous. He had sold very few works during his lifetime. His paintings were left behind as an inheritance no one quite knew how to handle.

What followed is the real story behind the wheat fields and harvest scenes from Provence.

Theo van Gogh

Everything passed first to his brother, Theo van Gogh, who had supported Vincent financially and emotionally throughout his life.

Theo died just six months later.

That short gap changed everything.

Johanna van Gogh-Bonger

After Theo’s death, the entire collection passed to his widow:

Johanna van Gogh-Bonger

She is the reason Van Gogh is known today.

She:

Preserved the full body of work
Carefully cataloged paintings and drawings
Organized exhibitions across Europe
Placed works with collectors and dealers
Built the early reputation that brought Van Gogh into public recognition

Without her, his work likely would have remained little known outside small art circles.

What happened to the wheat fields

The wheat field and harvest paintings from Arles and Provence (1888–1889) were not kept together in one place. They were gradually dispersed through early 20th-century dealers and collectors.

Each painting has its own ownership history, but the path is generally the same:

Vincent → Theo → Johanna → dealers → collectors → museums

Example: Wheatfield with Reaper (1888)

One of the better documented works from this group followed this path:

Painted by Vincent van Gogh in Arles in 1888
Inherited by Theo van Gogh in 1890
Managed and distributed by Johanna van Gogh-Bonger
Passed through European and American collectors in the early 1900s
Acquired by Edward Drummond Libbey
Donated to the Toledo Museum of Art in 1935, where it remains today.

Sir Edward Coley Burne‑Jones painted worlds of myth, magic, and quiet intensity. Today, those same works take on new life in sleek, modern frames that let the color and emotion speak for themselves.

Our Pre‑Raphaelite in Modern Framing collection celebrates that contrast—classic beauty, contemporary presentation.

☕️ Fun Fact Friday: Van Gogh’s "Holiday" Spirit Mix-Up

Did you know Vincent van Gogh created this somber drawing to capture the festive mood of Christmas?

🎄When we think of holiday art, we usually picture bright lights, snowy villages, and cozy celebrations.

But in mid-December 1882, a young Van Gogh wrote a letter to his brother Theo, proudly announcing that he had just finished two matching drawings: a man reading the Bible and this man saying grace over his midday meal.

n his letter, Vincent explicitly stated his exact goal for these two pieces: "...to express the special mood of Christmas and New Year."Instead of festive cheer, Van Gogh’s idea of holiday spirit was deeply tied to his early aspirations of becoming a pastor.

To him, true winter comfort meant humility, deep gratitude for simple things (like a steaming bowl of soup), and quiet reflection.

The dramatic steam rising from the bowl almost acts like a visual echo of the old man's silent prayer.

🎨 The "Hidden Lines" of Van Gogh’s Final WeeksDid you know Vincent van Gogh created this drawing just weeks before his death?

When Vincent moved to the rural French village of Auvers-sur-Oise in May 1890, he was immediately charmed by its old, sloping thatched roofs.

He eagerly wrote to his brother Theo, "There’s a lot to draw here," and begged him to rush mail a pack of 20 large sheets of paper so he wouldn't waste a single second.

Look closely at the swirling, rhythmic lines of the trees and paths. This isn't just an ink sketch—it was a dynamic underdrawing.

Van Gogh often mapped out these scenes roughly in pencil first before going over them with ink, watercolor, or diluted oils.If you view the physical drawing up close at the Van Gogh Museum, you can actually spot areas where his final ink strokes completely deviated from his original pencil lines.

He got so swept up in the emotional, expressive movement of the village scenery that he abandoned his own guidelines mid-sketch!

here is a growing sameness across luxury rentals right now.

The same neutral furniture packages. The same oversized clocks and generic canvas prints purchased in bulk. The same interiors designed primarily to photograph well online but forgotten almost immediately after checkout.

Ironically, as nightly rates continue climbing within the luxury short term rental market, many spaces have begun feeling less distinctive rather than more.

The properties guests actually remember tend to share a different philosophy. They feel layered. Intentional. Collected over time instead of assembled from a catalog in a single afternoon. The artwork carries presence. The framing feels substantial. The rooms suggest an owner with perspective rather than an algorithm with purchasing data.

That distinction matters more than many operators realize.

At UpperPin, we built our company around the belief that heirloom quality art should not be reserved exclusively for galleries, collectors, or luxury design firms with six figure budgets. Our pieces are handcrafted to order in America using gallery grade materials designed for permanence, not trend cycles. From large scale triptychs and statement giclées to classical reproductions, commissioned contemporary works, and modern abstracts, every piece is designed to elevate the architectural character of a space rather than merely occupy wall square footage.

Our catalog spans more than 20,000 works, with customizable framing and sizing options that allow owners to create interiors that feel genuinely differentiated from the increasingly interchangeable hospitality market.

And perhaps most importantly, we help clients curate thoughtfully rather than simply purchase impulsively. If you share your stylistic preferences, room dimensions, color palette, or the atmosphere you want guests to experience, we will build a curated collection recommendation tailored to the property and budget.

Because in hospitality, people rarely remember the couch.

They remember how the space made them feel.

There is something quietly powerful about a home that feels collected over time rather than decorated all at once.

One of our clients once shared that he had made it a personal tradition to add a single meaningful piece of art to his home every season. Sometimes it was a large statement piece above the fireplace. Other times it was something smaller placed thoughtfully in an entryway, powder room, or hallway corner that guests inevitably paused to admire. Over the years, his home evolved into something deeply personal; a living gallery layered with stories, conversations, memories, and craftsmanship that no algorithm or showroom set could ever replicate.

That philosophy resonates deeply with us at UpperPin.

In an era increasingly dominated by disposable decor and trend-driven interiors, we believe art should once again be treated as an investment in permanence. Our pieces are handcrafted to order in America by skilled artisans using gallery-grade materials designed to endure for generations, backed by a 200-year lifetime guarantee because heirlooms should actually behave like heirlooms.

From oversized triptych installations and gallery-wrapped statement canvases to traditionally framed classics and modern minimalist works, every piece is created with the intention of becoming part of a home’s long-term story rather than a temporary design decision.

Our collection spans far beyond what could ever reasonably fit onto a website alone. From lost Raphael reproductions and old-world European masters to modern abstract works, commissioned artists, and one-of-a-kind contemporary pieces, UpperPin was built around the idea that exceptional art should remain accessible without sacrificing craftsmanship, scale, or authenticity.

And perhaps the most rewarding part of what we do is helping clients discover pieces they may never have found on their own.

If you share your stylistic preferences, color palettes, room dimensions, inspiration photos, or even simply the atmosphere you hope to create, our team can curate personalized home gallery recommendations tailored to both your taste and your budget. Whether you are designing a mountain home, refreshing a dining room, creating a statement office, or finally addressing the blank wall that has bothered you for three years; we genuinely enjoy helping people build spaces that feel elevated, intentional, and enduring.

We also stand behind every order with a 100% satisfaction guarantee because buying meaningful art should feel exciting rather than intimidating.

As a thank you to our Facebook community, use code MAYSUBSCRIBERFB for 20% off your full basket order. The code is single use only.

And if you know someone building a home, redesigning a space, furnishing a medical office, or simply needing help pulling together an interior vision, feel free to share this post with friends, family, or colleagues. We are always grateful for referrals and happily offer referral incentives for meaningful connections.

Beautiful homes are rarely built in a weekend. They are curated thoughtfully, piece by piece, season by season, until eventually the walls begin telling the story for you.
