Nanner's Nook

Nanner's Nook Antique Chic Boutique
Owned by Hannah Rusinko Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Rusinko and I am the owner of Nanner's Nook. This really stuck with me.

I am currently a 3rd year medical student at PCOM pursing my dream of becoming a doctor. On my first day of medical school, during our orientation, we were asked to introduce ourselves by saying our name that we are a medical student and something else we do/something else about us. The purpose of this exercise was to remind ourselves that in the midst of the studying and the stress, to remember t

hat there is more to you than just being a medical student. The summer before I moved into my apartment at school, I started to repaint some old furniture to try and save some money. Little did I expect that the projects I did would turn out pretty well and people seemed to like what I did. I continued to start more projects here and there and soon did I realize that restoring antique furniture was a hobby that I absolutely loved. My family and I have been antiquing for years, but we never really bought furniture. Once this new hobby of mine picked up, I slowly started filling up our garage with "projects". I created Nanner's Nook to continue this new found hobby and to share my love for the craft with others. Here and there I have finished some pieces as well as created some home decor. My hope is for Nanner's Nook to not only have furniture, but also home decor, knick knacks as well as what I call "homey items" like candles and sugar scrubs. I appreciate all of your support as I try to grow my small buisness. I am Hannah Rusinko. I am a medical student and I love to restore antique furniture.

This piece reminds me of royal elegance and was so fun to do! I've been wanting to do a piece with a deep green for awhile and I'm really happy with how it turned out!

She is for sale!

Dimensions:
H: 36in
W: 20 in
L: 49in

Price: $425

If you are interested in purchasing, please message me!

*When looking at the price, please keep in mind that this was done completely by hand....therefore every speck may not be absolutely perfect, but I think that adds characters. There is a lot that goes into these pieces to fix the cracks and make it look like new. They take weeks for me to finish. I do this because I love it and it is just so fun for me. I really hope y'all like them too and that someone will think this piece is perfect for their home. Please send your friends!

*I will include a container of paint for touch ups as well as some excess of the decorative paper

I got to make this gorgeous piece for the lovely Hannah Griffiths 🥰. As you can see from some of the before pictures, this piece was in rough shape. To repair the chipping on the side I was able to use some wood putty but the top was a lost cause....SOOO got to learn some new skills using a router to completely redo the top (tell him he did a good job😉). I used Valspars Cabinet and Furniture paint in the color "Cornflower Blue" with a mattee finish. I LOVE how the brass contrasts with the blue.

What do you think???

This was my first time working with veneer, and let me tell you it was ~interesting~ 🙈🙈. But it's all part of the process and I'm learning more with each new piece I do😊 For anyone else who plans on redoing a veneer piece, you will need a shellac based primer. Water based paints simple don't stick to the material. I used Zinsser BIN shellac spray primer but they do come in regular gallons. Just fyi for the spray paint you will need a lot more cans than you expect.... Another problem with veneer is that you can't really sand it down without causing indentations in your piece, so I recommend either waiting to sand until you've done a few coats of the primer or using wood filler or paste to cover the imperfections and sand from there.

This is a beautifully handmade hardware cabinet found at Rollermills Antique Mall (one of my all-time favorite antique stores). This piece was a labor of love for whoever made it and I am so happy to be able to put it to good use again. You can see how each drawer was made with varying types of scrap wood. After sanding out all of the sharpie 😵 I applied 3 different types of wood oils to varying drawers to give it that multi-stain appearance. Just have to figure out a non-sharpie way to label each drawer and get the hardware organized and put in!

This was one of my projects over this past summer. She had a pretty solid framework and didn't really need anything repair wise so I got to focus on the cosmetics! Polishing those handles was the most satisfying thing EVER! Shout out to Brasso. She also has functioning key locks....but still searching for a key🙈 This is a project that I am keeping for myself but I love to show y'all my past work🥰

P.S. Keep me in mind for your furniture flips!

Just finished up my first commission!! So excited to show y'all this piece. I'm pretty proud of this one. Tried some new things and I think it turned out really great! Thank you for recommending my work to a neighbor❤️

My process:
After removing the doors and hardware and carefully removing the glass😳 I went to town stripping off that ~yellow~ paint. She was stubborn....but we eventually got there. I use Citristrip which works pretty well as long as you keep it very warm. She then got a thorough sanding to get her nice and smooth. Then came the painting. My lovely client had wallpaper already picked out and wanted it to match and I think we got pretty dang close! I use a Wagners paint sprayer and it is life saving. After 2 coats of Valspar's Furniture and Cabinet paint in Aspen Grey came more sanding. Underneath that yellow was that beautiful dark stain that you can see poking through. My client wanted a more rustic and worn look so I really wanted that stained wood to come through. So off to sanding I went. After that I used Dixie Bell's Black Glaze over the entire piece. The glaze is what really makes the divots and slits in the cubbies really pop and adds to the rustic/worn look. This was my first time trying out glaze and I have to say it REALLY adds to the piece. After she spent some time drying I reattached the hardwood and doors and she just about done. But I had to add my personal touch....so I adding my custom stamp to the back and then she was ready to go back to her home.
