When I saw this trend, I KNEW I had to create this because what do you mean there’s a difference between work clothes and non-work clothes?? If you see Charlie Havner at the shop, at our house, at a restaurant- he’s in his work clothes. And we love him for it.

We love that no two days in the shop are ever the same and we wanted to show a little glimpse into our Mondays. But really we wanted to show that, when you own a small business and you have a full life and a family, many hats are worn in the same day. We are owner and operator and mom and dad and concession stand worker and taxi driver and chef and shin guard soaker (unfortunately) all in the same day. Life is full and hard and wonderful all at once and we are so thankful to be able to wear every hat.

If it deserves a frame (and it does), it deserves Havner’s.

This piece by erin gregory is absolutely stunning. It’s always an honor to frame original art, especially when it’s this beautiful!

Local Love: Havner's Frame Shop 🖼️

Since 1977, Havner Frame Shop has been a Jackson staple — started by Ray Havner as a hobby in a Hicksville home, and now a full storefront downtown run by the third generation, Charlie and Trista Havner.

What makes them special isn't just the craftsmanship (though it's top notch). It's their rotating gallery, which features new local art installations every 90 days. As Trista says, "Art is the vehicle for community," and this shop proves it.

Three generations of framing Jackson memories. Stop by and see what's on the wall this season!

Havner’s Frame Shop has been serving Jackson since 1977, which means we are *almost* fifty years old- a whole half a century! Charlie and I have been gathering stories and photos of the Campbell Street shop and Mr. Ray and really trying to understand where we started and our story. Because, after all, who we have been and who we are becoming is just as important as what we do.

Charlie says the Havner’s Log Logo (as we affectionately call it in our house) has been hanging in the shop for as long as he can remember. I have always been fascinated by it; an artist, before computers and AI, designed and painted that logo with real paint and a steady hand. It’s nostalgic in a way that few things are anymore. I have always wanted to turn that original Havner’s logo into something we could wear and represent our past and our future.

It was a non-negotiable that the log logo sign would hang in the new shop. Our kids have this signage as the backdrop of the photos I’ve taken of them learning the trade. Charlie and I work under it every day. It’s a reminder to both reflect and dream. Small business ownership is uniquely rewarding. And exhausting. Full of the highest highs and some pretty low lows. But, for us, this is the work we love and we will always be grateful for where we have been and where we are going.

Charlie was busy over the weekend chopping and joining frames so I had PLENTY to do this morning! My hours at the shop are a bit different as we have a high schooler now, so I try to get as much done before lunch as I can and, let’s just say, this morning was productive! We are so thankful to have so much work to do!

*DISCLAIMER: we are professionals and know how to stack work so that everything is protected. We are all good there. What I did not anticipate was how heavy this stack of work would be. Someone remind me that I’m not 20 anymore!

We always love when people who didn’t even know Havner’s existed stop in the shop. This week, 𝘼𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙤 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙯, a traveling photographer and all-around interesting guy, visited the workshop and had a conversation with Charlie about our story and place and what it means to live a curious life. It’s easy to live in the weeds with all the moving parts that make a business go, but it is such a nice reprieve to get to talk about the part of the shop that keeps us showing up- our story.

While he was in the shop, Adelino captured a few shots of Charlie working and we are really thankful for these images! Charlie works with the knowledge and expertise of three generations and it’s always so interesting to see how other people capture that work.

Charlie and I are still fairly young people, so we don’t know too terribly much about what our legacy will be (we hope it’s that we led with kindness and integrity). But I do know that when I see pieces we framed in businesses and homes around town, I can’t help but think about future generations enjoying pieces with a Havner’s sticker on the back.

This gorgeous piece hangs in Gylden Bake House in downtown Jackson, the cutest little bakery I ever did see. Becca, the owner of Gylden, dyed this silk scarf at Garner Blue Shop + Studio and loved it so much with the blue tile in the cafe that she decided to make it a focal point. We stitched it to a neutral mat, put conservation glass on it and paired it with a cinnamon toned frame to complement the woods in the cafe. It’s absolutely stunning and a true piece of art. And if you turn it over, you’ll see a little Havner’s sticker with my very own signature on the back.

If you have been to Gylden Bake House what are you even doing?? The pastries are delicious and they even have a sweet little garden to enjoy. Becca (and Morgan Libertè Social) have created a beautiful space!
