It was a beautiful day to get some clean up done out at my happy place. I believe we figured it was my 3rd season but I'm cute not smart right now lol. One of the last things accomplished was harvesting the lone grow bag of sweet potatoes we got this year. Was more than expected and like last year an absolute laugh riot!! Was curious about the biggest one and WOWZA!!! What we have learned at happy place is grow bags are the way to go, ground planting never produced before and we had two years of success with bags. I'm still working on how to successfully do them in my 'hood as the city critters absoforkinloutely LOVED the leaves and treated 'em like a buffet.

Eventually the worms will get their own page and I'll share that to here. Until then I'll continue to post about 'em here!! On October 6th I purchased 60 european nightcrawlers during a Blains shopping trip for $10. Figured why not as then they're not being shipped then and the supplier is from MI. Research showed that was a good number for the size bin I have available to start a dedicated breeding bin. I was curious yesterday to how that endeavor was going so I went cocoon hunting. I found 40!!! I was expecting maybe 10-ish as research indicates they're slower than the red wigglers. I then had to find a small enough container for those and get started on a grow out bin. Today the pre-compost was started for that. Takes at least a week to be safely usable. The next step is getting their condo built and I'm looking for the best price on the pvc pipe to accomplish that.

Today I have been puttering around. This morning I had to strain my coffee concentrate so I could get prepared for the week. I did NOT need to know how easy cold brew is to make 😁🤣😁 What I do enjoy though is making flavors that suit my tastes and saving money. Have the garlic bed prepped for planting soon. Also cleaned out the tire planters, various hanging baskets, and grow bags. Still plenty more to get done!!

My garlic didn't get big but the smell today was amazing!! I believe I'm going to dry most of it to make my own garlic powder and will try again for next year!

If you are local to me and love pasta then you need to experience theirs! The smell alone while cooking let me know this was going to rock and it's not easily describable especially when paired with sauce I helped can. I know there are many varieties and they can be found at local farmers markets so head on over to The Kilted Farmers to learn more.

Yesterday was spent walking down memory lane, wishing some things could change, cherishing the good, and daily life tasks. I managed seven pints of carrots that all sealed. Next year I may try smaller jars as these are easily going to be 2+ serving size for me. The worms will get the scraps in the next batch of wormcakes. I also condensed the two original boxes and the two boxes of cocoons down to one box. This was moved to the basement where the "condo" is. No I am not worried about my QA Manager messing with it or using it for a litter box.

Next year will involve hoops and netting in the carrot bed! This is the biggest one so far due to all the greens being treated like an all you can eat salad bar. They loved the hollyhocks and a few other flowers as well, UGH

Feels good to be back home!! I went to Chicago for a few days for an early birthday gift. My eldest got me tickets for Megadeth and Iron Maiden. One of the first things I did when I got home was walk the jungle as raspberries needed picking and I found an onion that was ready. I grew that from a sprouted one. Neat experiment but not one I'm likely to repeat. Out of about 30 planted this was the only survivor!
