Hello Trolley friends. Winter weather is here and so are our Christmas shop hours. We are open:

Fridays 3:30 pm until 6:00 pm
Saturdays 8: 00 am until 2:00 pm, -ish (call us at 301-473-8300 to see if the Conductor will be there beyond closing hours)
Sundays 11:00 am until 4:00 pm

Nobody likes bug bites. But everybody likes "lightning bugs!" So, how can you avoid the bad guys without harming the nature we love (and need) in your yard? One cool trick is to create a "mosquito bucket!"

We'll post a how-to link in the comments, but here's why it's so important...You can't spray a landscape JUST for mosquitos. If you hire a company that offers a "mosquito barrier" or apply your own "mosquito fogger," those chemicals kill ALL the insects in an area, including all the harmless garden helpers, beautiful butterflies, bumbling bees, and the food that insectivores like birds and bats need to survive. Those broad-spectrum sprays also contaminate the watershed, polluting drinking water and harming aquatic habitats. It's an ecological nightmare, can be expensive, and it isn't even that effective.

One method to keep your landscape dreamy is to target mosquitos where they breed. A mosquito bucket is a simple and effective way to do that- without harming other species! You can install one using a decorative planter, or keep it cheap and simple with an old bucket. Jump into the comments section for a link to more info.
