When you think of a traditional Kentucky woodshop, high-tech 3D printers usually don't come to mind. But at Open Grain, true craftsmanship means being willing to look way beyond the grain. 🪵✨

We recently had the incredible opportunity to step outside our usual comfort zone and partner with our talented neighbors at Nimlok Kentucky to help bring a new local landmark to life: the Four Roses Visitors Center Monument Sign! 🌹

While Nimlok masterfully engineered the grand outdoor structure, they tapped our team to bring the iconic Four Roses dimensional emblem to life. Here is a quick look behind the workshop doors:

Trading Chisels for Tech: We fired up our Creality K2 3D printer to capture the organic, delicate curves of the famous floral relief.

Patience in Every Petal: To ensure flawless detail, each individual rose required a staggering 10 hours of continuous print time.

Built for Kentucky Weather: Our craftsmen hand-finished and sealed every piece with a specialized, multi-layered paint coating to guarantee they withstand hot summers and freezing winters alike.

We are incredibly proud to have our high-precision work greeting bourbon lovers from all over the world.

10 hours of printing compressed into seconds! ⏱️🌹

Here’s a mesmerizing look behind the workshop doors at Open Grain Woodwork. For this project, we traded our traditional wood chisels for our Creality K2 3D printer to help our friends at Nimlok Kentucky bring a brand-new landmark to life: the Four Roses Visitors Center Monument Sign!

Every single petal required meticulous precision and half a day on the print bed to achieve these perfect, organic curves. After this, they headed straight to our hand-finishing station for a custom, weatherproof paint job built to survive the wild Kentucky elements.

Proof that true craftsmanship means being willing to look way beyond the grain.

In every office, there is one piece of furniture that holds the weight of the company. It’s where the "Big Idea" is finally caught, where the contract is signed, and where the team gathers to celebrate the wins. 💼✨

At Open Grain, we believe a corporate table shouldn’t just fill a room—it should define it. We don't do "out of the box." We do out of the ordinary. Based in the heart of Louisville’s maker district, we blend old-world craftsmanship with modern technology to create one-of-a-kind statement pieces that represent your company’s legacy.

From CNC-precision logo engraving to seamless tech integration, we build furniture that tells your story.

From a 1920s forest to a 2026 houseboat on Lake Cumberland. 🌊🌳

We just put the finishing touches on one of our most meaningful projects to date: a bespoke Trestle-Style River Table crafted from a single, 100-year-old Black Walnut tree.

This isn't just furniture; it’s a piece of Kentucky history. Because we used "all-one-tree" for the entire build, the grain, patina, and soul of the wood are perfectly harmonized from the tabletop down to the massive trestle base.

What makes this piece unique?

The "River": A deep, opaque blue resin that mirrors the strength of Lake Cumberland.

The Engineering: Traditional Tusk Tenon joinery, allowing the table to be "knocked down" for easy transport through narrow boat galleries without sacrificing an ounce of stability.

The Heritage: Slabs sourced from a tree that lived through the Great Depression and two World Wars.

Whether it’s a statement piece for your home or a high-impact boardroom table for your business, Josh, Jake, and the Open Grain team specialize in "one-of-a-kind" at a "professional-grade" scale.

We love it when a customer brings us a challenge! Recently, we were handed a complex vector file of a raven and asked to bring it to life. This wasn’t just a simple cut—it was a high-precision puzzle of maple and walnut.

Using our CNC, we transformed those digital lines into a crisp, intricate inlay that shows exactly what happens when modern tech meets traditional craft.

This level of detail is exactly what we bring to our custom corporate conference tables. Want your company logo or a custom brand mark immortalized in solid wood? If we can do this raven, we can do your logo.

The Legacy of the Derby is Written in Wood. 🐎

The "Run for the Roses" is defined by more than just the two fastest minutes in sports—it’s defined by the texture of its history. From the historic Paddock Wood Salvage to the signature cross-bracing of the Winner’s Circle, the architecture of Churchill Downs tells a story of heritage and prestige.

As we look toward the 152nd Kentucky Derby on May 2, 2026, OpenGrain is proud to be the silent partner behind the racing world’s most exclusive environments. Whether it’s engineering custom white oak surfaces for the Woodford Reserve Turf Club or creating bespoke activations for Angel’s Envy, we bridge the gap between raw utility and refined luxury.

Are you ready to elevate your brand presence for Derby 152? From high-end hospitality build-outs to C-Suite gifting crafted from reclaimed bourbon barrels, we bring the same precision to your project that a trainer brings to a champion.

Derby season is officially here, and at Open Grain, we’ve been busy behind the scenes helping two icons gallop into the spotlight.

We’ve partnered with Angel's Envy and Grey Goose to create custom, gold-standard horseshoe displays that are hitting liquor stores across the region right now! From precision CNC cutting to that trophy-room gold finish, these pieces were built to celebrate the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.

Going on a Derby supply run? Play along! 📸
If you spot one of our displays in the wild, snap a photo and tag us! We want to see which stores are winning the display game this year.
